Parents of the HS Class of 2016 (Part 1)

@cakeisgreat Huge congrats to you!! I say choose the path that reflects your passion, and it will work out in the end.

@labegg Congratulations!

@ballerina16 I agree, she should call. Interview mixups are not uncommon.

@readingclaygirl Good for you! Learning to ask for help is a life skill that will serve you well.

Not yet and she does not have his phone number after all since the number he called her was from some business. It could not be a mix up in places since she sent him reminding email yesterday with the address. She only has email for him and for head of alumni. I think she should email head of alumni since this guy was trying to come up with excuses that DD did not respond to his email about interview in the past. I am checking her official emails and know for a fact she did not receive any emails from him.

@readingclaygirl, if I had all the funds I have spent on math tutors for my kids back, we could probably pay for at least one year of college! Good for you for getting help when needed!

@Ballerina016 I really hope this works out for your daughter. How incredibly stressful! And thank you everyone who said I’m doing the smart thing and applauded my efforts

Thank you for the support @MuggleMom @GoodGrief16 and @readingclaygirl

Well, she emailed the head of our local alumni and went home. It is so stressful. The alumni is a very accomplished older gentlemen who just did not want to do it. He does not email or text. Only calls on the phone. I don’t know how to get another interviewer. We will just wait and see what happens.

@Ballerina016 That is so frustrating and so hard when so much is out of our control.

That’s so incredibly frustrating. Why would someone sign up to be an alumni interviewer if they don’t want to interview people? Hugs to your D! @Ballerina016

So sorry to hear that the interviewer never showed up @Ballerina016 …how stressful and unfair to your D :(. I hope the college recognizes how hard that is on HS seniors.

@Ballerina016 ~X( Sending boos to that interviewer!

Sending hugs to your daughter @Ballerina016. I hope someone from the school reaches out to her to acknowledge this unfortunate incident.

Very discouraging that they would do this @Ballerina016

How frustrating @Ballerina016 . I agree that alums should not volunteer to interview if they can’t be certain that they can fulfill the commitment.

@Ballerina016 that must be incredably frustrating for your already stressed out daughter.

@Ballerina016 that’s nerve wracking and such an inconvenience. Did he ever get in touch with your D to let her know why he was a no show?

Thanks for the encouragement, everyone! S’s interview went very well, he thinks. It lasted over an hour and he felt very comfortable with the interviewer. He’s accustomed to speaking off the cuff and in front of people, so interviews are a good option for him. I’m glad he’s been able to do them for three of his schools.

We’ve been in second semester since school started back after break. The newness of second-semester-seniorhood is wearing off just a little, though it feels kind of strange when I think of

@readingclaygirl: My daughter could use a math tutor, but won’t go to one. She works with the teacher after school occasionally. You’re to be commended for taking the initiative!

Off to a music competition tomorrow- one S usually does well in. Let’s hope the streak continues…I’ll play catch up here while we wait for results. Hooray for tablets!

The interviewer never showed up or contacted DD. The head of the interviewing team responded with email saying that she contacted him and if he will not get back to her soon she will reassigned DD.

@Ballerina016 I’m glad at least someone is trying to help you. Good luck.

@Ballerina016 hope that she is reassigned & that all works out for your DD!

Thank you @bookmom7 and @carolinamom2boys I hope they reassign her to a different interviewer. She had five interviews for different schools already and never anything like this.

@Ballerina016, I feel so sad for your daughter. The interview should be exciting and interesting, not something that makes her feel badly. I hope a better alum can be found.
