Parents of the HS Class of 2016 (Part 1)

I did not top off my gas tank or buy water, milk and bread to prepare for the snow, but I did stop at the library to pick up a few DVDs. I know there’s a partial bottle white wine in the fridge. I think I’m ready.

Congrats to your daughter @carlson2 . That’s quite an accomplishment .
@RyanG1207 The real measure of preparedness is do you have enough toilet paper?

@catholicmom3 my son is with a huge public district and they do not use Naviance so he does not have access. Interestingly, my s20 is at a public charter homeschool and they just bought access! So my homeschool kid will have access and my regular school kid will not.

@carlson2: That process is grueling, but the honor is unsurpassed. Congratulations!

@bookmom7 - congrats to your kid as well. Those essays are brutal.

@carolinamom2boys I just ran down to the basement to check! At least 20+ rolls! Got nervous for a second. :stuck_out_tongue:

If your student is is NHS, you might want to check if their school’s chapter knows about the NHS scholarship.

hmmm- @carlson2 We are going to have to decide if it is worth it or if we will be happy with the ‘candidate’ label.
Still have a couple of scholarship applications due- that actually could result in $. Plus a college visit for an honors program & the end of the 6 weeks right before the application is due. :frowning:

@MuggleMom sorry to hear you are still struggling with the collegeboard. It sounds like dealing with the college board should become an olympic event - maybe as a the test of endurance similar to running a marathon.

@carlson2 congrats to you and your D that is exciting news! To you as well @bookmom7 !

@lvmjac1 condolences on the deferral. It is great though that your daughter is able to grow from the experience. This is ultimately the goal of college right? growth, learning, maturity. Just wish it could be more fun for the kids (and us)

Congrats @bookmom7 I must have skipped over your post. I’m having a hard time keeping up.

@RyanG1207 I grew up in Baltimore and it was customary to go to the story for bread, milk and toilet paper. When I moved south and mentioned get your bread, milk and toilet paper , people looked at me like I was nuts. I can do without milk and eggs, but not toilet paper.

I’m having a hard time keeping up today too! congrats and commiserations to those who need them today. How are things on the east coast at this point? I remember those storms from when I lived in NH and don’t miss them a bit! Everything sure looks pretty afterward, though. Hope everyone rides it out ok.

The College Board continues to amaze me with the lack of professionalism. D’s last application was sent in early Dec. and the SAT’s ordered soon after. They are nowhere to be seen by the college. They’ll take a screenshot, but honestly, WHY can’t the College Board get its act together!?!

D was able to give blood for the first time today. She was quite nervous but it went smoothly and she is feeling pretty proud of herself. She’s resting up now because she has to dance tonight, Sunday too. She is interested in getting on the bone marrow list, because mixed-race people are the hardest to match. I’m not sure what the rules are for bone marrow donations.

@sseamom Your daughter is braver and more noble than me. I’ve always been afraid to give blood.

@sseamom I haven’t given blood yet but I hope to someday. I received blood transfusions as a premature baby so I would like to give back. However I’m unsure if I could handle it. Kudos to your D!

Emergency preparedness in Hawaii: bottled water, rice, and spam. For the last couple tsunami warnings, the store shelves are literally cleared of these items.

@sseamom & @MuggleMom so sorry College Board continues to make things difficult for your DC!

I don’t know if it would help but, at one point our GC provided us with a copy of the school’s Student Score Report the High School Copy. It appears more ‘official’ than a screenshot or the page you can download from the CB site.

I graduate five months from today and that’s scary and exciting and just crazy.

Just crazy, readingclay girl, just crazy.

That sounds so cool and promising.

@readingclaygirl

That’s a relatively late date. You must have started the school year in Sept.

Five months from today, D will be in Castries, St Lucia enjoying her southern Caribbean cruise graduation present. With the cold we’ve been getting, I bet she’s wishing she can go on the cruise now.

But, yes, you’re absolutely correct- scary and exciting at the same time.

Yeah, we start after Labor Day up here in NY. @ChicagoSportsFn

DS16 graduates on Jun 2, 2016 at 10:00 am. We’ve had the countdown app going since school started . Then on Jun 5 we head to Disney. It is coming too fast
