For some reason D’s HS traditionally has graduation the Sunday before Memorial Day.
Maybe the school administrators think that extended family are more apt to attend since it’s a long weekend? Maybe if they were real family, they’d forgo using Memorial Day weekend to open up that cabin in WI or MI and go to Junior’s graduation instead?
D has had a countdown app going too, and they have a countdown on the senior class whiteboard. She graduates on June 11. Not going on any trips, though.
I had a heart operation when I was a toddler and was always told I could not give blood. I feel kind of cheated.
@bookmom7 different colleges have opted for different “proof” of D’s test scores. One wanted the high school report, 2 others have been ok with the screen shot. One took the screen shot until they got a hard copy for their records. But of 10 schools, 4 have had problems either not getting the scores at all, or way later than they should have.
So many presidentials here. Congrats to you. My D checked the list for fun and announced ‘how cool is it that I’m friends with so many of the smartest kids in the state’.
@GoodGrief16 thanks for your kind words. Unfortunately no end in sight. College board can’t rush anything and the schools can’t consider what they don’t have.
@collegemom2boys, in 2014 the USC scholarship notifications were sent on Jan 24th which was the fourth Friday in January that year. Last year they were sent Jan 23rd, which was also the fourth Friday in January. Today is the fourth Friday this January, so let’s hope there is good news this weekend. I am about a long hour from USC so if good news is coming I hope it gets here fast.
My S graduates on June 6th. It is actually a week earlier than usual - school normally starts here right after Labor Day. But with Labor Day being late in 2015, the District started school the week before. No family trip planned but we’ll have a graduation party on June 5th. And S will go to Disney with his class the 3rd week in April - you know, when he’ll probably be missing a few admitted student days.
I’m starting to think that maybe H and I should plan a little weekend getaway when S is in Disney.
My D also just got an email to apply for a full ride scholarship – it will involve writing an additional two essays. She is done, though. I don’t think she has the desire to go through the motions, since this was for her safety school, which is almost a full ride already bc she will be a NMF. I can’t imagine she is going to want to apply for it. Nowadays, she is thinking about tennis, a prom dress, and counting the days until March 31st.
No snow here yet. Shovels are out and ready. Looks like SATs have been canceled here (doesn’t affect us) and lots of closures already. And not one snowflake yet! Maybe I’ll go to sleep and wake up to find that the storm headed out to sea and missed us?
@bookmom7, @carlson2 and anyone else who has a Presidential Scholar’s candidate, first of all, congratulations! And, second, how did your kids hear about it? Did something come in the mail? I went and checked the list and discovered my D is on it, but she hasn’t heard anything yet. I have a feeling if more essays are involved, my D won’t be on board though. I think she’s probably done. She submitted her last application a week ago and is trying to finish a scholarship application this weekend. So now, we’re just in waiting mode, hoping to hear from somewhere soon.
