@rayrick - Yes but she is aiming to make us even poorer - next stop med school somewhere for next 4 years. Glad to hear about your niece. Some of D’s friends are going on to jobs but many seem to be also staying back to do a 5th year masters. It is like Disney Land and none of them want to leave.
@fretfulmother - hopefully you kept your maiden name professionally just in case. 
One of my nephews got the honor many years ago and his parents enjoyed the trip. I think the lucky parents have some events that they get to attend.

Congrats to all who children are Presidential Scholars: @GoodGrief16, @momofsmartdancer, @carlson2, @bookmom7, @Mom2j (hope I didn’t miss anyone). It is awarded solely by perfect ACT or SAT scores (if you aren’t appointed in the Arts category); even in our relatively small state, all recipients had perfect scores. S13 was a presidential scholar. We had no idea about this honor before another parent emailed us to say congratulations, and then he got something in the mail a few days later, which did have log-in info.
Since we knew about it, we knew that D16 missed it by a little, but she was not willing to retest. S13 did essays; they were tedious, especially since he wasn’t appointed as the state winner! 
NOTE: here are several threads on CC about whether it is worthwhile or not–I’d read through several and decide. In retrospect, I wish I had not pushed him to do the essays…And yes, you do get to nominate a teacher. If you’re the winner, your teacher is honored, but it seems that the threads explain that there is a financial disadvantage for the teacher…somehow it costs them money? Maybe the teacher’s trip to the award ceremony isn’t paid for or their guest isn’t paid for? Read up about this.
Congrats to all those hearing good news about USC (loved, loved your story, @happymochi). We just need to clarify which USC so @carolinamom2boys isn’t haunting her mailbox.

Very exciting news for those in the running for the GT scholarship. I hope it all goes smoothly. It is VERY competitive but students seem to love the place even without the scholarship.

@EastGrad No chance of that. That’s one of the schools in SC that we didn’t apply to I will be stalking my mailbox if I do hear of Clemson Calhoun Honors notifications coming out though. That’s the only thing my son hasn’t heard from yet. Oh, and those scholarship offers, how could I could forget about those . [-O<

I was so upset yesterday since I understand that only top 1.5% get invited for scholarship, but I really hoped that she will get in. USC is a commuting distance from us and with NMF she is guaranteed half tuition off. We loved the campus. My husband went out for a jog this morning and found this package outside. It was not there yesterday. Sorry I don’t have patience of @happymochi so I woke her up at 5:30 am and gave her a package. After a happy dance around the house she is back to sleep hugging the red folder.
