Parents of the HS Class of 2016 (Part 1)

@Ballerina016 @greeny8 Congrats!!! <:-P <:-P

Great news @Ballerina016 ! Congrats!!

Congrats to all on the wonderful news! It is so nice to come on here and read all the happy stories and learn so much! I decided to check out the Presidential Scholars Program and my son is also on the list! There were two from his school. He has a 1550 SAT math and reading, and I do believe there were some from his school that scored higher, but I can’t be certain. I know that he only took it once - and a lot of the other kids have higher superscores.

What a great way to wake up @Ballerina016 ! Congrats to your D!

@Ballerina016 Congrats to your DD! So happy for you and her :slight_smile:

I heard on the USC thread that if scholarship prospects are not mentioned on the letter of acceptance, more likely than not the student got Dean’s scholarship or something like that.

Does anybody know whether NM can be added to some other scholarship? Even 1/2 tuition is a little too much for us.

@kittymom1102 DD was invited to interview for presidential half tuition off scholarship. As NM she already guaranteed this amount, but she will interview since they might bump scholarship to the next level after the interview.

Thank you @carlson2 @bookmom7 and @readingclaygirl

@Ballerina016 s @happymochi! CONGRATS on USC acceptance and scholarship news.

FIngers crossed @Mysonsdad.

@greeny8 congrats on the acceptance too!
congrats to anyone I missed who is on the Presidential Scholars list. That is quite an accomplishment.

@laroyri Congrats! The score is in ONE SEATING. My S only took it once as well and got 1570 (M+CR); however, we live in FL and here students need 1600. I know for a fact that the kids who got it in my District were all 1600, except the Arts kids, the ones with * next to their names.

@Ballerina016 Good for you, guys! S is NMSF (very likely Finalist) but 1/2 tuition won’t cut it for us. Let’s see what happens.

Congrats @laroyri

Congratulations @Ballerina016! What a great way to start the day. Enjoy it!

Congratulations @Ballerina016 and @happymochi and thanks for sharing your stories of the USC package arriving and your children receiving it…so happy to share in the excitement with you both! Fight On!

Congrats also to all the Presidential Scholar Candidates!

Fingers crossed for your son @Mysonsdad

@mom2jl - D asked about an year ago and the mean parents were not receptive since medicine requires another 7-10 years to complete.

During the first year I met an alum trustee couple who had 5 children at various stages of schooling at S - including a final year of PhD and none had left yet (one of them started in 2012).

@ballerina016 Woohooo!!! What great news to wake up to this morning! I am grinning ear to ear envisioning your D hugging that red folder! <:-P

@Ballerina2016, congratulations to you and your D.

I woke up at 3:00 am thinking about USC and the scholarship. I honestly think that if we get the good news we are hoping for S may be done. What worries me is that sometimes mail makes it from LA in one day and sometimes it takes two so I don’t know if it is taking two days or if we didn’t get a notice. UGH!!!
Now, how do I keep my mind off it for another day? Last year a student from my school got a full tuition scholarship.

@Mysonsdad I totally understand you. I’m sure your S will get in. The Scholarship part seems to be a bit random, especially the Trustee one. However, there is more than one type of scholarship.

Is he NMSF?

@Mysonsdad Waiting is so hard.

@kittymom1102 no he isn’t NMSF. Also, he submitted his CA and then was having a problem getting a teacher rec submitted so he called USC to ask what to do. They then told him he hadn’t submitted his supplemental essays and he would no longer be considered a priority but to submit them immediately. The next day he got an email saying that everything was okay and his status hadn’t changed as long as he had submitted by the end of the day in which the email was received.

Good luck to your S.

@Mysonsdad He’s more than fine. Remember that there are more than one way to get 1/2 tuition. Your S is very, very accomplished and I can see USC offering 1/2 tuition Presidential. So sorry that you have to wait a few more days, but good things come to those who wait :slight_smile:

Best Luck!

Congratulations @Ballerina2016
