Congrats to all with good acceptance and scholarship news. I finally have an acceptance to post for my S - he got admitted to the Scholars program at University of Maryland today. It’s been a long time since his first acceptance - back in September - to Pitt. Now the wait until March for all the rest. We’ll be taking him to visit UMD in a few weeks.
@Ballerina016 and @LKnomad my D also applied to CSULB, but didn’t hear anything today. I hope that’s not bad news since I figured it was a safety for her.
Congrats to everyone who heard today about acceptances and scholarships! We’re still in waiting mode here, hoping to hear something soon.
@Mom2jl it may not be problem. My son didn’t hear anything either. We had to figure out how to find the portal and looked. Have you looked into the portal?

@LKnomad, hooray for good news!!
Thanks @LKnomad for the link. My daughter’s not too good about checking the portals, so I’ll make sure she does that. I wasn’t sure if they sent an email or not.
@Mom2jl try to login to portal and check the status. I didn’t realize that invite for scholarship actually was an acceptance.
1st time poster on this thread. I was active w twin Ds14. 2 years ago, they did not make their decision until late, late April, mostly bc we had to weigh merit scholarships and financials above pure want. It was a fun but stressful time in our family- deciding to forego Ivy dreams and following the money instead. They are now deliriously happy across the country at USC.
And now D16- applied to only huge schools in warm states, almost all known for giving merit. I am in a hotel room as we speak gearing up for yet another accepted students day. Her strategy is paying off as she is getting acceptances and great merit money. But I now feel the stress starting to creep in again. I know it’s great to have choices, and I know it will all work out, but I DO NOT WANT TO HAVE NUMEROUS SLEEPLESS NIGHTS LEADiNG UP TO MAY 1st this year. Just putting that out there in case the universe might help me w that:)
I am going back and reading many of your posts. This group seems as kind and as helpful as '14 did.Congrats to all who are receiving acceptances, merit $ and/or substantial financial aid. Thanks in advance for allowing me to join and learn.
Welcome @3tallblonds !
Congratulations to everyone receiving good news!! Friday was quite a day for this group.
Yes. I can’t wait until late April and 1 May when final acceptances are received and selections are made.
Happy times will be had by all!!!
We’ve had so much news in the last 24 hours that we finally hit the character limited in the acceptances thread http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/parents-forum/1836696-class-of-2020-list-of-acceptances-h-s-class-of-2016.html#latest. And it isn’t even RD season!
I moved both “by student” and “by school” lists to a Google doc that can be edited anonymously (you might remember this strategy from 2014 @3tallblonds, welcome back!). The bonus is that now we can easily indicate and share the excitement when students make their selections. http://■■■■■■■/class2020
Welcome @3tallblonds .
Wow, fabulous news for all - congrats to those receiving great news about acceptances and scholarships! And, in a reflection of these harried times, my D has just informed me that she forgot to order a cap and gown! Good thing this is easy to rectify.
So many great posts, congrats.
@petrichor11 I am always strangely excited to see an Eckerd post–not sure why since I think my D has decided it is “too hot” there and moved on.
Congrats @PAO2008 and @3tallblonds -welcome
Thank you @GoodGrief16 - yes, homeschooling mama here! 9+ years!
@Cheeringsection remember to consider if your child will need to purchase the University Health Insurance option. My S14 is covered under our family plan and simple proof of insurance was sufficient at his University for his First Year. For his Second Year we needed to get a Hard Waiver to exempt him from having to get the University Insurance. His HMO would only cover emergencies as he is in school OOS and that isn’t considered sufficient coverage. So we had to purchase the plan for him…that was about $2400.
@MAsecondtimer that’s something we should all check into. I hadn’t even considered that until one of the forms that came with one of D’s acceptance packets included the waiver request. The cost for university insurance seems to run 2K or more at most of ours schools. We are concerned because right now our insurance is through a local HMO that was bought out just recently by a national company. But that’s in flux as it’s being challenged in court. My older D was thoroughly covered by her dad’s comprehensive, national insurance, but doctors seemed perplexed by it for some reason. She was even once accused of having a fake insurance card and looking for drugs (she has chronic back pain from an old injury).
Hi everyone, its been a busy and very emotionally stressful few days and as a result got behind in my attention to the new posts on the forum…therefore, Super congrats to all receiving great news, patience to those still waiting and lots of hugs to those who have received not so great news…us included…initially…
@petrichor11 we were in your same shoes (a few pages back) with ANOTHER deferral for my D from UNC-CH (same scenario as with your S) as a result she was totally in the emotional dump and therefore so were we! Thankfully the very next day she receives great news (as did your S and your D I believe) - an acceptance to UMD-CP Honors! My D was beyond shocked and excited! Three deferrals in a row is tough but that is life and she will be ok (it will make her mentally tougher - and me have more grey hairs!). Now its the long interminable wait for the RD results.
@LKnomad So sorry to hear about your S being so sick but kudos to him for having such great grades and respect from his teachers to be able to not worry about how the exams will affect his grades!
Welcome @3tallblonds!
Sorry if I have forgotten anyone…my thoughts are with you all during this crazy insane rollercoaster journey we find ourselves on!
Finally some great news @lvmjac1 - congrats for your D!
We seem to be on that straight part of track picking up speed for the upcoming ups & downs of RD. Preparing to hold on tight. (was never one to let go & fling my hands up in the air!
)
@lvmjac1 Congrats to your D!!! <:-P I don’t know if anyone here D’s ever read the Alice series by Phillys Reynolds Naylor but I throughly enjoyed it. Alice ends up going to UMD-CP so that’s what I keep thinking of when I’m hearing of acceptances to there!
