Parents of the HS Class of 2016 (Part 1)

Hey @kittymom1102 - just noticed that you are in Florida! Congrats on your package at UM - that’s wonderful! Your son sounds like a great student.

Have you thought much about UCF? They keep sending my son emails.

@SouthFloridaMom9 Super-duper Congrats :D/

Yes! Another Floridian here :slight_smile:

UCF sounds great. We even have a family member there. The only problem is that S is not totally convinced about the size of the school, though. It’s a little bit bigger than he would like it. Also, he would like to go to school in Boston. S is definitely keeping it on the list until March madness arrives!

Super Congrats to your S on 2 acceptances in 1 day!!! @SouthFloridaMom9 <:-P

Thank you @readingclaygirl! :)>-

@kittymom - hope your son’s Boston dream come true! I understand the size concerns with UCF; we have some of the same thoughts.

It certainly was a super great Friday all around! Congrats to all.

@SouthFloridaMom9 Thank you so much!

So much to catch up on and I haven’t even been away that long!

That’s fantastic news @fretfulmother @carolinamom2boys @collegemom2boys @kittymom1102 @Ballerina016

@petrichor11 Even though I think Eckerd has fallen off the top of our list it seems like a great school for the right person! What is she planning to study?

@sseamom Thrilled for your D! I hope they realize how lucky they are to be getting her.

@lknomad I’m so jealous – my S16 is constantly digging out of the holes he left early each quarter. He hasn’t figured out the importance of strong starts. If I didn’t have @AsleepAtTheWheel 's assurance that such kids can get it together in college I’d be really depressed. You should be really proud of your S. And I hope he recovers quickly and completely, especially now that a lot of the pressure is off.

Wow! Congrats on all the acceptances and scholarships! A fruitful Friday, indeed!

Thanks @crowlady

Thanks @crowlady-- she’s not a hundred percent sure yet what she wants to major in. Not math or chemistry. Beyond that…I’m guessing something humanities/liberal artsish, but beyond that it could be darned near anything.
Fit is such an important component of this search, and after she applied to several schools and got into two she didn’t want to go to and waitlisted at another she thought she wanted to go to and ultimately realised she didn’t…the right fit became a lot clearer. She’s very much the sort of kid the CTCL schools are geared toward.

Wow–busy day at work and I missed all this great news! Congrats to you all!!

Meanwhile, @petrichor11, my S has one by one dropped all the CTCL schools off his list. I do think he could do well with them but he’s got something else in mind.

He got his UMD decision today – accepted for spring semester. He says that’s kind of half an acceptance, so he is now 5.5 out of 6. We haven’t had a chance to talk about the options (one is to take classes in the afternoons in the fall) as he’s a bit grumpy about it. He’s been so anxious to get out of state but I guess he wants to be the one doing the rejecting. Now he’s groaning about the long wait to hear back from California schools. I’ll be planning visits as a way to keep up his morale.

@SouthFloridaMom9 UMD is a fine school and I know many faculty in the computer science department (I used to be there doing research, am still adjunct faculty in biology). Happy to answer any questions you might have – congrats to your S!

Congrat-ish to your S on his “half-acceptance” @crowlady Sorry it wasn’t as planned and I hope he ends up at a great school!

Must be scholarship day! My son received the GA Tech provost scholarship today which is the difference (huge) between instate and OOS and he is still in the running for more but still feels like he doesn’t want to go there but perhaps the interview process will change that (I doubt it). Just glad he has a number of great options in our happy price point.

S finally got his first acceptance. CSULB! It is his safety and his last choice but it is nice to finally have something to celebrate. In his sick state he gave me a half hearted, yay.

@Ballerina016 I am glad you posted about the scholarship because after the initial application my son has received no correspondence and had been insisting there is no portal. After your post, I figured out where the portal was so he was able to see his acceptance but he cannot look in to see what is going on with the scholarship. We will have to call Monday to see why he cannot get in. Congrats to your daughter.

Congrats to your S’s @LKnomad @dcplanner <:-P

Congratulations to your son @LKnomad and I hope he gets better soon. I still don’t know know to get to portal. Please post link.

Congratulations @dcplanner , @SouthFloridaMom9 and @crowlady

Congrats @LKnomad So good that he got his first acceptance! I’m sure there are so many more on the way

Woohoo @SouthFloridaMom9 ! You are a homeschooler too, right? Exciting news!
