Parents of the HS Class of 2016 (Part 1)

I have a FA question for those who have been through this before. My older D’s grandmother paid for her college, so there was no FA to be had and I don’t recall the timing anyway. In general, how long after the FAFSA is submitted do you hear from schools about FA? According to the EFC and NPC, we should get something from at least a few of D’s schools. But one that’s already offered a scholarship wants an answer about that scholarship on March 1. We submitted FAFSA on Jan. 20th. Will we have heard from any of the colleges by then, do you think?

I was just telling D this morning that it would be great if you could choose a college like you do cars-do the research, pick a price point and style, and go in and sign the papers with the amount of aid you want. All these different deadlines and notifications is for the birds!

Thank you @3scoutsmom It is a good one.

@crowlady - I’m just shaking my head over all of this going on. Live in the middle of the country now, but I graduated from CHS - and Ed Norton’s mother was my English teacher. So much turmoil for a relatively small community. ;-(

@Cheeringsection My S16 did the family grocery shopping last night – maybe you all have that kind of help from their kids but I’m thrilled at this development. He and his older brother have done it before but he did it totally on his own. I’d add that to the adulting list.

@readingclaygirl Late to the party but congratulations!

S just got an invite for UCLA Regents!!

@Ballerina016 Congrats on the scholarship!
@readingclaygirl That’s our girl!
@LKnomad Hope your S feels better soon.

@sseamom, when is the FA priority deadline of that school that wants an answer by March 1?

Could you ask them for an extension?

We submitted FAFSA last year in early February and heard by March, April from D’s schools.

@Ballerina016 Congratulations to your daughter on the Nordstrom scholarship and good luck on the Amazon scholarship.

Congratulations @happymochi !

Congratulations @happymochi !

@mommdc according to my handy dandy spreadsheet, the FA deadline is “ASAP”. The other Very Important School’s deadline is 2/15, and the third I don’t have in front of me as it was a late add-on. I guess it can’t hurt to ask. We’re also waiting on 2 honors college/scholarship decisions mid-month, so about 2 weeks from now. I swear I have a permanent headache.

I am between periods right now, but S got a notice to apply for the UCLA Regents. However, it does say it is not an offer of admission…

Congratulations @Mysonsdad

@mysonsdad wow, really? From what I’ve read people seem to say it is automatic at this point. Anyway congrats to you and @happymochi and also to @ballerina016 on the scholarship!

Well nothing here for Regents, but two more invites for the Berkeley alumni came in. Congrats @Mysonsdad and @happymochi.

Happymochi, you will need to write a how to for future homeschoolers. Your son seems to be doing very well!

Yay @happymochi and @Mysonsdad, that’s awesome!

Thank you @Undercovermom1 No UCLA Regents here as well @LKnomad as expected. We did not see any love from UCLA in the past and not expecting much. Also got a second round of Alumni from UCB. Probably a reminder.

@Ballerina016 were are more hopeful toward Berkeley. Students at my son’s school have better luck with Berkeley than UCLA. Luckily my son liked Berkeley better. I think I already told you that UCLA is near the bottom of the list anyway. To much school spirit. Not my kid’s thing. I also think he might get Regents from UCI. Also near the bottom of the list but who knows.

Same at our school @LKnomad . Not much luck with UCLA, but much better with UCB.

Congratulations @Mysonsdad
