Parents of the HS Class of 2016 (Part 1)

@Mysonsdad Re: Accutane, my son did not experience any joint pain. He is an athlete and that is one of the reasons we originally held off as well. Yes skin will be sensitive to sun but nothing that sunscreen couldn’t handle.

Congrats to all with the CA school scholarship invites!

@happymochi @Sophmore1 thank you. Funny prom related story. Guy #2 who rejected me is student council treasurer, his sister is the 10th grade rep. The three of us and our friend who is the VP were coming out of the meeting and the 10th grader asked her brother if he had any plans for prom. My friend blurted out that I had asked him, and she(the 10th grader) was mad he said no. (His reason was he had a date in mind.) He got beet red. So this morning he comes up to me in Spanish(my friend is also in that class) and says his sister told their mother I asked him to prom and she gave him a lecture on respecting a girl who asks you to prom and not lying. Apparently he has no idea who to take to prom, he just used it as an out to refuse me. But it’s all good.

LOL! That’s a lesson he probably won’t soon forget! I must say you’re being awfully civilised about the whole thing-- kudos to you, @readingclaygirl.

Thank you. It was quite funny to be honest. I have to be civilized with him, we work together in Student council. Plus he did say I was nice. @petrichor11

@happymochi, great news! So excited that things are going his way now!

@mysonsdad, and I see your news is good too. I am REALLY crossing my fingers for your kiddo.

Always happy to see people I “know” on this thread getting good news. Good luck all the Regent’s candidates. I am jealous of those who can go to the UC schools.

Hi all! For those experienced with the fafsa, what happens when you need to make a correction to fafsa after you submitted it to all your schools already? I made the correction, but do I have to resubmit (and pay) all over again? Thanks.

@debate4ever I just made a correction to FAFSA last night and it was pretty easy – you just log in and look for the make a correction link. There’s no payment for FAFSA so maybe you are thinking about CSS? I’m just about to do that one, so I’m not sure about correcting it.

We came home to some good news on the merit aid front (finally)! My D got her estimated award letter from Fordham, and it included merit aid and pretty decent grant aid, too. We’re not sure it’s enough, but it puts the school back in the realm of possibility.

I’m happy for her because she had hopes of a full tuition award there that were dashed when she was admitted EA with no merit. (For a while, it was probably her top choice but the lack of $ made it move down the list.)

I’ve heard they sometimes bump up merit awards later in the spring as other things shake out, so I guess things are far from settled.

Thanks for the help! I figured it out @crowlady

@crowlady @debate4ever

I ended up calling the CSS help line for information on correcting it, and the person there said I needed to print it out, make the changes manually, and mail it to the schools.

If anyone has different information, let me know!

@petrichor11 told me the same thing about CSS profile. Send it in, then once taxes are done, print it out, make corrections (I guess with whiteout) and send it in.

Congratulations @MidwestMomTo2

@MidwestMomTo2 That’s awesome news! I will say that the Jesuit schools seem to mystify everyone with their merit aid, but when it’s good it’s good!

Thanks for the adulting ideas! I had forgotten about the meningitis vaccine. DS can do the grocery run, but we probably need to talk about prescriptions.

Congrats @happymomof1 and @Ballerina016 !

Iron a shirt and pants for adulting ideas.

@mysonsdad I would not correct the Profile with white out. I would cross out and write the new answer next to the crossed out answer. That way the school can easily see what has changed.

I’ve been trying to get S the Meningitis B vaccine for over a year. (We’re within 1-2 degrees of separation of 3 different families who’ve been affected by it.) It’s taken on new urgency now, as there are at least two cases at one of his EA accept schools - but more important than that, one where we have a LOT of contacts and friends. It’s a school he likes enough that he might turn down seriously good merit to go there. So we’re hoping for the best for the students there, praying for the ones in the hospital, and are thankful that the onsite MenB shots start up tomorrow.

For people worried because it’s so new - it’s been given in both Canada and the UK routinely for years. Just approved by the FDA last July or so, but it’s not experimental. We’ve even considered making a run for the (northern) border, as we’ve got family in Canada and could probably get the vaccine there pretty easily. He won’t go to college without it.

Just finished packing for DS16’s Honors Interview scholarship weekend. Feeling a little nervous , but excited . It’s going to be very busy with classes , group and individual interviews, writing assignments , dinner with the Deans, Provost and scholarship sponsors and an overnight dinner. I’ll attend an introduction meeting and informational session Friday morning , but then I won’t see him until 3:00 on Saturday .

I wish I was packing @carolinamom2boys. Instead, I just bought a ticket for D to travel alone halfway across the globe for a Candidates Weekend at the end of the month. I know she’ll do fine alone and is really looking forward to it, but I doubt I’ll be able to take a deep breath the whole time she is gone.

@carolinamom2boys Sounds very cool and a bit stressful! Hope it goes well and that he has fun!
