Parents of the HS Class of 2016 (Part 1)

I never though about it, but you’re right, that is a pretty high average.

@Skates76, it’s nice to have bad news balanced with good news, except that I am not sure whether or not to say congratulations or condolences. Here’s both! Also, thanks for your “college cluster app organizing idea,” which I thought was so brilliant, I copied it to the Class of 2019. (Okay, so who can tell me how to do the official “CC” copying, when you get the nice indent, line, and darkened text?)

Super big congrats to @Mom2jl and hurray for the decision and perfect fit, @lifegarding, that you found on the sly. Congrats to @frenchtoastlover, one more feather for your cap!

Fingers crossed that the UCalifornia sea changes mean great things for the many left-coasters on our list!

@Skates76 Thanks for the app download suggestion. Very helpful! Just dwnloaded for D16’s chosen college.

@EastGrad The news really was good overall. The ‘bad’ news came from a school already offering full tuition, the good news school was not affordable with the current scholarship offer. She was convinced that she had not advanced in either one, so she was smiling at the news.

The app thing started when we went on a four school, extended weekend mega-visit. Some of the schools were not in session or offering visits, so I was looking for apps with campus maps, and from there it just became a ‘thing’ we enjoyed.

Sitting in S21’s math competition at the moment, with D16 as one of the team student mentors. I have gotten about 3 out of 40+ questions in their lightning round correct so far, so clearly the ‘mathlete’ genes did not come from my side of the family, lol.

D received an invitation in the mail from UCSB today to attend a Chancellor’s reception honoring top applicants in March. Is this possibly a precursor to Regents/Honors?

We had an overnight visit at the college that offered the full tuition scholarship and my son has decided that he wants to attend. I think we are done.

Congratulations @Justathought1

@Undercovermom1 This is an acceptance. Congratulations! I have been reading about it on cc. Is this to San Jose location?

Congratulations @Justathought1

Congrats @justathought1

@ballerina2016 really? That’s excellent! We will attend in Los Angeles. There are receptions in San Jose, LA, Costa Mesa, DC and NYC.

@Justathought1 Dreaming of the day I can say “I think we are done”!

So happy for you and all others that have made it to that point in this process already!

Congrats @Justathought1 <:-P

@Undercovermom1 Yes. It is for dinner, correct? The dinner invitation is an acceptance to honor college and will be announced during dinner. The one that is not for dinner, something like “lite refreshments served” is more like likely letters.

Congratulations!!! @frenchtoastlover @Justathought1 @Undercovermom1 @Mom2jl I hope I didn’t miss anyone.

Anyone waiting on other UCs? I’ve read that UCI releases CHP decisions around now.

Now that Berkeley is moved back to March, it’s going to be radio silence until mid-March. 12 more decisions to go. Someone please throw me some dark chocolate kisses!

We’re waiting on UCR, UCI, UCSB and UCLA. D got an email from UCR yesterday that sounds like she’s accepted, but I’m not sure because it’s weirdly worded. We haven’t gotten our mail yet today, but hoping for the Chancellor’s reception invite.

I love the forum days with lots of admissions and scholarship action. So excited for all of you with good news. @mysonsdad, frustrated with you that there is more waiting for your young man. I feel like he is going to have great choices in the end though.

@happymochi, we have five decisions to go, plus a competitive scholarship decision. Twelve decisions will be a lot to sort out in a short period of time, but how fun!

@happymochi we didn’t hear from any lottery schools yet. All of them will come between end of March and beginning of April.

Yeah, we’re not going to hear from anyone until mid-March at the earliest. To be honest, I’m just as glad since it takes some of the pressure off for a few weeks. On the other hand, starting in mid-March, S and I will be basket cases.

Meantime, we wait to get financial aid quotes from D’s school.

It’s very very difficult to type with all one’s fingers crossed…

@ballerina016 it’s for lite refreshments.

D still 7 more schools to hear from. The last will be announced April 1st. The only thing we hope to hear about In a few weeks is positive competitive scholarship news for one school.
