@morningside95 Welcome!!! Congrats for your son’s acceptance to his #1 choice and financial packages which makes it affordable.
Welcome and congrats @morningside95 <:-P
Envelope arrived today from the school we went to scholarship interview for last week with “congratulations” handwritten on the outside. I am having trouble waiting for D to come home from school. 3 more hours!
Thanks a bunch!
@readingclaygirl - You sound like an amazing young lady.
@DAPIStained - We let our son drive 4 1/2 hours to Grinnell for his first overnight visit, last fall. It was a little stressful, but all went well. I know he enjoyed feeling independent for a little while, and it was good practice for us too. Your daughter will have a great trip. My S16 and I visited Ann Arbor on our way between Kalamazoo College and Oberlin last summer and loved the town. Several U of M friends here in MN and, boy, are they a loyal group of alums! Good luck!
@Booajo - You are being VERY good!
@Booajo that sounds so promising I am going to go ahead and say congrats!
Just a bit of annoyance. My son’s gov teacher allowed my son to make up 2 of the three assignments that he missed while he had pneumonia. One assignment he said could not be made up because it was a partner assignment. Now this specific teacher was not one of those who I emailed about the pneumonia because my son did not have a final in his class, this is AP gov and it is a one semester only and so it is a new class. So he did not know the severity of the illness, nor does he know about my son’s worth ethic at this point. The thing that irritates me is that, while my son was sick he was telling me he wanted to return to school but the doctor said absolutely not. He was contagious. His temp was 103.5.
I really have a problem with penalizing students because they miss due to illness. I don’t want someone else’s sick kid to make mine sick so I try to provide the same courtesy. But when teacher penalize a student because they remain home when they have a contagious version of pneumonia it is unfair and discourages students from taking care of themselves, other students, and their teachers!
I emailed the teacher and mentioned the severity of the illness and my goal of keeping other students and teachers well. We shall see if he excuses the assignment.
It just goes on and on around here.
Ugh @LKnomad school was no place for your son with that high of a fever. I know when I had a similar situation earlier this year, where a teacher wouldn’t excuse an assignment or let me make it up, my GC talked to the assistant principal who is the department head and got it excused.
@labegg - weather is supposed to be in the 50’s & sunny in Pittsburgh this weekend! Last time we visited it was snowing & very cold. Good luck.
Congrats on the EDII acceptance for your S to Grinnell.
I am told than it’s a beautiful campus and the resources available to students are extraordinary compared to other LACs.
Grinnell is an excellent choice.
I really need to stop reading the Class of 2020 threads for schools with impending decisions. The constant “when are they sending out decisions?” “what time are they going out?” “is it email or portal?” “help, what are my chancesssss?” make me feel anxious, even though I’m thinking the same questions myself!
@Booajo YAY, the anticipation of good news!!!
@me29034 Have a great trip! Looking forward to a happy report upon your return.
@morningside95 Welcome and congratuions!
@DAPIStained I will feel the same way when my S goes away by himself. She’s going to do great!
@LKnomad How frustrating. If the teacher gives you grief, you can always bring in a doctor’s note. After all, it was doctor’s orders to stay home!
@Booajo Wow, that has got to be good news!! Yay!!
@morningside95 Congrats on the acceptance for your son! That’s awesome that it all worked out. I am one of six, the oldest, and we are sort of throwbacks with six kids as well. I always shared a room growing up and S16 did while he was younger, but has had his own for the past three years since his brother graduated in '13 and went into the Army. It will be an interesting adjustment for him I’m sure!!
@LKnomad Yeah, I’d be writing that teacher too. This is a no brainer so I hope it doesn’t have to escalate above this teacher.
Good news to report: S just got acceptance letter from Vanderbilt <:-P
Extremely surprised to say the least!
Congratulations @kittymom1102
Congrats to your S! @kittymom1102 <:-P
Congratulations on Vandy! @kittymom1102
Congrats @kittymom1102 My cousin’s D is a junior there and loves it.
Thank you, thank you, thank you @Ballerina016 @readingclaygirl @happymochi
I’m so happy for him
@kittymom1102 - Congrats on Vandy! S '16 is on his way home from there as we ‘speak’. Apparently he had a fabulous time. Was it a MOSAIC invite? They are later this year. S '16 really likes Vanderbilt and considered ED there…but us parents weren’t ‘considering’ ED anywhere so, Anyway, maybe both of our guys will end up there. It’s a great place! Have you visited? He had been there briefly when his sister visited years ago, but because he was so interested, it is the one place off of the west coast where we actually took him to do the admissions tour, etc. last spring. If we had known they were going to fly him out, we would have done things differently. But aren’t these surprises great?! Let me know if you have any questions. D '10 attended MOSAIC and had a great scholarship offer there. Vandy was a very close second choice for her.
@critter Yes! Do you know anything about this invitation? We cover his plane ticket, I guess …
I’m happy for him, but the most important part will be the price tag, you know
