Parents of the HS Class of 2016 (Part 1)

@petrichor11 In our state, and at least one other I know about, those who are eligible to vote in the general election are then also eligible to vote in the primary even if they aren’t yet 18. My S is really into the whole process.

I’m proud of myself. I finally finished a tedious scholarship application! <:-P There are still a bunch of essays to write for scholarships but this was the only one with a March 1st deadline. I just have to get my transcript, GPA and class rank from my GC and turn it in

@readingclay Well done!

Thank you @readingclaygirl & good luck on your scholarship - always nice to finish one!

Thank you both @LKnomad @bookmom7

D is quivering with excitement to be able to vote. I will definitely look into our state’s rules on the primary vote at 17 if you will be 18 for the general election. Thanks for the heads-up!

On a different note, I found this on a another thread, actually LOL’d and thought my posse here might get a giggle too. :smiley: http://www.weeklyschoolnews.com/news/star-student-rejected-by-entire-ivy-league-for-taking-family-vacation-in-4th-grade/

@palm715 -hahaha! Although sometimes it almost seems that randomly ridiculous! :wink:

@palm715 I read that link and what is more humerous ( if not scary) is the number of people who had to ask if it was true.

@carolinamom2boys That is exactly what I thought. Satire anyone?

I had to run to the grocery store earlier and D had promised to work on scholarships this morning before choir and dance practice. I come home and she’s got one of her many blank books out having turned it into a “body journal”. She thinks she’ll start working on her shape and eating better sooner before prom than last year… ~X(

I was…less than happy so now she has moved onto her scholarship applications.

@sseamom haha It’s probably not good I laughed because she seems to have master procrastination skills! :))

Tulane is another great rolling admissions school.

So my son is pretty sure where he wants to go. He’s ready to start cutting some of the schools loose that he knows he doesn’t want to attend so hopefully someone else can get his merit money. They all have a prominent click yes to pay your deposit box but most don’t seem to have an easy way to say no. Should he just send an email to the generic admissions email address? The school he plans to deposit at asks to withdraw all outstanding apps but doesn’t really say anything about other admittances. He feels like he should let one ride until May 1 in case something weird happens. Do people do that? He won’t be changing his mind and the finances are totally stable.

I don’t know how you say “no” @dcplanner, my college included a paper in the acceptance letter for you to send back saying you were going there or not. But anyway Huge Congrats to S on the decision! <:-P

There are quite a few members of this thread that haven’t posted anything on the acceptances google doc.

I can understand maintaining privacy while awaiting more decisions and during deliberations. I do hope that once a decision has been made that everyone will enter the info on that page so we can all enjoy the successes.

Not sure, I thought once you commit you are supposed to let all other schools know soon. If there is no card or no option in portal, I would try email.

About the CSS correction, they should really make this easier. But my understanding is that if the school asks for FAFSA update with DRT or sending in tax returns with IDOC, that should satisfy the income correction (after doing taxes) for them. But you might want to double check with the schools.

@asleepatthewheel - I wish I had secrets to maintain. :slight_smile:

The date to commit is usually May 1st. If one has decided to commit and they have other schools they are sure they wont attend, it is better to let them know in case they can admit other students to the spots.

My dad got the taxes filed! Yay now we can type in the changes.

@AsleepAtTheWheel Until very recently I had nothing to post. S’s schools had no EA or rolling admissions and I thought we would have nothing until March. The CSUs finally released their info and S got an early decision from UCI, otherwise everything is in March. We are waiting on10 schools!
