@AsleepAtTheWheel You know why we haven’t posted. Although , I look forward to the day when I can change my color to red on the acceptance page.
Yay for your S’s first decision if I already didn’t say so! @LKnomad A lot of my good friends are stuck waiting until March.
Yay, @readingclaygirl! Did you happen to use Turbotax or Taxact online, they have a handy FAFSA worksheet that lists all the important info from your tax return that goes on the FAFSA.
Don’t forget 401k contributions though since they are not on tax return, but on W2.
My dad uses Taxact online. @mommdc that’s very good to know.
Thanks for the reminder @AsleepAtTheWheel
Is it true that $75K is the line in the sand between getting significant financial assistance and not getting hardly anything? Seems like that is the big cut off I see I net cost estimations on different websites.
@dcplanner On one of my D’s portals, there was a button for “withdraw application” which lead to a page that said withdraw application request. They then wanted to know where she was attending. I thought it was a bit misleading though!
@Baylorpoly do you mean $75k in income? Also what is considered signicant? That word might have different meanings for different people.
@Baylorpoly I don’t know. There’s probably no one specific cut off. I do know my family’s income is above that and according to the NPC’s at the colleges my sister and I will attend we are eligible for state and federal aid including work study. But maybe that has to do with having two kids in college at once
@readingclaygirl, here is how to get to the taxact FAFSA worksheet
Thanks @mommdc ! Very helpful.
Tax day at our house today. It’s done! Now to update FAFSA…
How long do you need to wait for tax retrieval ?
I just read around 2 weeks
I have a feeling we are just going to update by hand.
As soon as return is processed I think. If you expect a refund you can check status at “where is my refund” IRS page after 24 hours I think.
This is still early in the tax season, things should go pretty quickly.
Last year I efiled on 2/4 and could use DRT on 2/9. This year I received refund after a week, but waited to use DRT until D was home.
@Baylorpoly it’s going to vary by school. Our D applied to 10 schools and not one gave us the same EFC as another., and the FAFSA number was different from all of those. The NPC’s at the various schools gave us numbers ranging from no aid at all to what for us would be a “significant amount”. We have not gotten any FA awards from any school yet, so I can’t tell you how accurate any of the NPC were. We make above the number you gave. I do not know if it’s a line in the sand anywhere or not.
We did get merit aid that made some of the schools cheaper than our in-state publics-any FA above that would be a gift.
Let’s all post on here what the financial award letters state when they come in so we can compare
