Parents of the HS Class of 2016 (Part 1)

Yay, cheers all around for you and yours, @Kat2013 Outstanding news!

LOL, DW is on an accepted students trip with D16 and just reported that D16 thinks the students and people at the school are too nice. Oy, since when is nice a bad thing?

Thanks for sharing your story @bookmom7  Got some teary eyes, here too!

@ProbDeferred - My S’s friends are having similar experiences to yours, so you are not alone. My S is only set because he was lucky enough to be accepted at his ED school. The rest of his buddies are on the same roller coaster you are on, and they are all amazing students! I am sure better days are ahead in the next few weeks! So take heart and we’ll look forward to hearing you share your news with our community!

@labegg - So happy for your D’s Marquette acceptance. My nephew attend there, is in his Soph year, and is having a great experience! Enjoy your time, now that this journey is winding down for your family!

@Undercovermom1 - No only does your profile picture make hungry for frozen treats, your funny comments always make me smile!

Very busy with work these past fews days, so just trying to keep up with all the posts. I am expecting we’ll hit close to 18,000 by the end of the weekend!! Good luck to all! Hugs to those who are going through a tough time. >:D<

@Skates76 I could see my DD saying something like that. She has never lived in the south and isn’t used to strangers smiling and saying hello!

One week before we head off to our final high school spring break vacation with all 4 of us!

Congrats on all the new acceptances! I’m in a good mood because I finally got my college portal login.

@labegg I find it annoying that some people have their own harbor masters, homing beacons etc while some of us are sitting around in the dark looking for a match.

Congratulations.

congrats @Kat2013

@labegg - with regard to notifying the school about your choice. I could see it going both ways- Might not feel comfortable sharing but, I’m sure schools probably use that info looking to future years and how they may do a better job getting students to matriculate. Maybe decide on a school by school basis- some yes/ some no???

Congratulations @Kat2013 sounds like you are on a roll!

@AnxietyAttack77 You nailed it, that is usually what she says when she is in Southern areas and she is at a southern school today. Personally I think it is something that balances her a bit, but I think she worries about coming across as too aggressive/assertive when everyone around her is more laid back than she is. Too funny.

That niceness is a character flaw that we have in the South @Skates76 .

Oops, I did it again. Bought a few items (such a bargain, they were!) on D16’s dorm room list when I was out alone. But, she didn’t like the style. Have to now return a wee wastebasket, thermos, and paper-towel holder. Apparently, not in her style – even though they match the bedspread. Well, from now on, she’ll just have to shop with me.

Isn’t it great to know, @labegg ? Congrats! For her emails declining to attend colleges she was accepted to, D Googled what to write. The format she chose was…a sample letter on CC! How about that! It was very generic, almost like a form letter you get when you’re turned down for a job: ā€œThank you for accepting me, but I’ve chosen to attend another school.ā€ It was a bit longer, but not by much.

@dyiu13 we got D’s Dormify package yesterday./ She loved the sheets and duvet cover, and H started muttering about cost. D said, "These cost $10 each. Even Walmart is more expensive. I’m hoping that once we get to Nashville, we won’t be running all over trying to be too matchy with all her stuff. H might have to fly home alone…

Congrats to those with good news today.

One of S’s decisions went up on the portal half an hour ago. And S won’t look! He’s busy doing homework (no surprise there). Says he’ll check at some point. Why is he stressing out his mother this way??? LOL He looked right away when he reach school posted last week. Ack.

@carolinamom2boys When we visited the University of Kentucky she thought one really polite fellow was being rude because he called women he didn’t know ā€œMa’amā€, and that term implied they were old. Little geocentric she is (-;

@critter @Sean67208 @krnBoston We were amazed at the variety of food options at UMass. Of course, my S had to sample the pizza both on and off campus. It passed the test.

Hearty congratulations, @labegg

Yes, @critter , this mom of two sons also teared up at @bookmom7’s post.

Also, a little belated, but congrats @indsfolax !

Our spring break starts Friday next week. And we still don’t know our college visit itinerary. This could get expensive.

Just got our graduation date: May 31 in the evening. Our county uses a major concert venue so they can’t tell us who goes when until they’ve finalized their spring concert lineup. The rest of the school will keep going to classes for another three weeks or so, but seniors don’t have to (nor do they have to make up snow days).

@crowlady our graduation venue is also a big arena… for a while last year our hockey team was doing so well there was the potential that NHL playoffs could have interfered. Fortunately, the team’s winning streak ended and graduation went off with out a hitch.

Hey folks, @DAPIStained hasn’t been here in a couple weeks but it looks like his D has gotten some great news recently (judging from http://ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– /class2020 )!

Congratulations @Kat2013!! You and your D are in the h-o-m-e-s-t-r-e-t-c-h!! Congrats on the raise too!

Congrats to @indsfolax, too! Does your S have many more schools to hear from before making a decision!? I grew up down the road from UCI. It was just really starting to grow as a campus, back then (early 70s)! Now that we’re in the Midwest, sure wish my S17 could consider UC schools, but OOS tuition is too high. Would you have any advice on good Cal State Schools? Their OOS costs are not so bad. Good luck on your S’s decision! B-)

I had an big day at the office and I come home to not one, but two of you posting things to make me cry! @bookmom7 and @labegg I am thrilled for both of you!! Hugs from teenage boys and college decisions are equally momentous in my life, but I am not sure how much more of this roller coaster I can take. :(( :x :D/ <:-P
