@eastgrad - you will feel annoyed about them when D comes home and complains about those guys across Charles River taking all her classes and screwing up the curve because they find H’s classes easy compared to M - but moving on:
On a side note, I am watching the weirdest bit about male beauty products being tried out by the H’s famous alum, Conan.
@EastGrad is a tough act to follow! Congrats to acceptances and scholarships!
Re: spirit wear. S16 didn’t want any until he made a decision. Then he asked for a hoodie, baseball cap and winter hat. He already had a few tshirts that were handed out at the tours. And I got a car magnet!
We still have no final decision but my D did buy one tank top during her solo visit to a school – and put a sticker on her chromebook. So, there’s that bit of tea leaves. It’s the only place she got anything.
Thanks for the update as usual Eastgrad. We have an Oxy acceptance, with presidential scholarship and a generous need based scholarship making the school affordable and close enough to home, should he chose to stay nearby and make me do laundry on weekends. Yay.
Congrats @Mysonsdad on the UCSB acceptance! And yay for the Oxy acceptance @LKnomad as well as the great FA package! I really wanted D to apply to Oxy but she thought it was too close to home (we’re only about 15 min. away), so that was a no go.
Congrats to all!!!
Made my D 16 housing deposit today at UCR
When we visited the school we went into the bookstore and she bought a couple hoodies, my comment was you better go to the school now!
Meanwhile my S 15 doesn’t have a single piece of clothing with his school on it, nor does he really care.
Some of you definitely have a lot of decision making ahead of you and I wish you the best of luck!
It was pretty easy with my kids, with my D 16 it came down to where she got the most money, and it was significantly higher than anywhere else.
She wanted a UC with an education program, and that also narrow down the choices.
My S 15 wanted to go to school by the beach, came down to a choice between SD and SB, and I think he made the right choice!
He was one of those very high stack kids, that just really didn’t care what the name of the school he went to was, he also ultimately wants to be a teacher, and it really disappoints me when people say, but he is so smart.
Don’t we wants Smart people teaching our kids?
Anyways, good luck on your decision-making, I’m excited and super curious to see how everything turns out for all of you!
Concerned about your DC16’s adjustment to college, especially in terms of mental health? This seems like a fabulous site, with both a parent portal and a student portal: www.transitionyear.org.
@TwoBoyzOneG1rl Yes…I want smart people teaching kids! Especially ones who are passionate about teaching! Always so happy to hear about kids following their passions and dreams, rather than the path “others” think they should! Kudos to your kiddos…great career choice for both!
@Mysonsdad So happy for your son that the good news is beginning to roll in…I know he has needed to be more than patient over the last few weeks as others were hearing good news and he was not. I continue to root for him!
@TwoBoyzOneG1rl - teaching is definitely a calling! It’s awesome to hear about your kids. What does “high stack” mean? Your kids should practice some things to say, because the “but you’re so smart” thing oddly persists, alas. Not from 99% of people, though, so don’t let him worry too much!!
@texaspg - @EastGrad’s D will have some time to get ahead on her work when those MIT kids who crossed the river realize they have to cross back over the Charles to get to Harvard classes, since we’re on the same side.
@TwoBoyzOneG1rl Congrats on your future educators! My D12 is currently student teaching and searching for her first teaching job for next year. She’s loving it and I’m happy and proud of her. We definitely need more dedicated bright young people to embrace the role of educator for our future generations.
“@Mysonsdad: So happy for your son that the good news is beginning to roll in…I know he has needed to be more than patient over the last few weeks as others were hearing good news and he was not. I continue to root for him!”
@texaspg - I don’t know, maybe “cross-registering”? Or going to BU or Wellesley? Or maybe it’s a why did the so-and-so cross the road joke of some kind
“why are they always talking about crossing to get to other school(s)”
