Parents of the HS Class of 2016 (Part 1)

We couldn’t be happier :slight_smile:

Rejected at Caltech and WL at UChicago. It is what it is :slight_smile:

Congrats guys!!

Congrats! It is maddening but also wonderful the different ways schools look at our kids. It really is all about the student and the school finding their true match. So much great news and choices coming in, sprinkled with some disappointments, but in the end getting everyone to the right place!!

D finally mentioned that she won the National Merit Scholar award from NMSC. She is using the news to get us to go out to her favorite Tex-Mex place tonight (-:

Congratulations on Stanford to those who got in, feeling your pain for those who didn’t. It’s a tough school to break into. @frenchtoastlover congratulations on Amherst. How many schools did you apply to?

On another note, S just got into University of Virginia.

So now we have 8 acceptances, 2 waitlisted (wait til rejected) and 1 rejection (Stanford)
S will start sending emails to schools telling them “Thanks, but no thanks.”
All we have left are 5 Ivy’s and Georgetown
I feel like getting acceptances up until now has been like the playoffs and the Ivy’s are like the Superbowl.

Congrats to everyone! <:-P I think I found a roommate. Different girl than I mentioned before.

@Mysosdad Wonderful news ! ! ! UVa is an impressive school <:-P <:-P <:-P <:-P <:-P

We have 7 accepts. 3 rejects, one deferral, and one we are waiting on.

@LKNomad, so you guys will end up with a winning record lol <:-P
We need one more for the win
@kittymom1102, thank you

I know I have asked this in the past of those California folks…but I do not retain such information (old brain!). Which school is “Cal”?

“Cal” generally refers to Cal-Berkeley (UCB).

Cal is Berkeley @4kids2graduate

Congrats to those with their freshly awarded admits and chocolate and hugs to those with not so good results.

@Mysonsdad as a UVA alum, congrats to your DS! Wahoo-wah!

@4kids2graduate : No one speaks this way, but the flagship university for the University of California is that at Berkeley, or “Cal”.

@Mysonsdad Unless Reed is an upset we will have 8 wins and 4 losses. May I just add that my guess for reach, match, and safety was perfect. His reaches were all (or will be after Ivy day) rejected. All had admits 10% or lower. Matches (even the high ones), so far have all matched. One more to go. And the safety was a sure bet because our local school district.

D16 currently has 2 acceptances, 1 waitlist and 3 rejections. One of the acceptances is a Canadian school (where we live). Six more schools to hear from (3 of them ivies). We spent a lot of time and money applying to US schools with almost no support from her teachers and administration. The one US school she got into gave 10% off the 60K+ price tag. :(( The Canadian school is very affordable - but she was hoping to move back to the US where she spent most of her life growing up.

We knew that she was aiming high with her US schools, but she has the stats plus leadership. :frowning:

Congratulations to all those who got into great schools.

I am catching up with this thread. Can someone please provide the link for the NMF Scholarship Winners List? Thanks!
@bookmom7 maybe?

Congrats- @Mysonsdad on UVa, @frenchtoastlover on Amherst & @Skates76 on NM scholarship! <:-P

2 acceptances, 2 waitlists— we didn’t cast a very wide net. Interesting to see how this turns out.

@helpfulandtrying - no list out. Each student has to check their NM portal.

S was accepted to Rice University and waitlisted at Stanford.

We are thrilled he has so many wonderful choices. Current count is 9 acceptances, 3 waitlists, 1 rejection. We have 2 more to go.

I’ve tried to channel the inimitable @EastGrad to do a monster recap post, but it’s impossible. So I will say CONGRATS to the wonderful kids and parents on this thread!
