Thank you, @petrichor11. Yes, D knew in advance where she would go when she was fortunate enough to be admitted.
I sort of like the midwestern smack down happening between @ChicagoSportsFn and @CAMidwestMom!

Well, this is my first avatar on CC I’ve chosen myself. It’s “Benny”, the statue of Beneficence on Ball State University’s campus in Indiana. Benny is one of the symbols of Ball State, and often used as their logo.
Choosing this avatar because my D chose this past week to attend Ball State.
My D’s choice was between three schools that were not only safeties for her, but likely for many of your children as well. She had many other options to apply to where she may have been admitted, but she had her own reasons for wanting these schools, and not applying anywhere else.
I am very happy for her, and proud of her accomplishments.
I also find myself happy for every one of your children’s acceptances, be they selective schools or not so selective…
I can sense the excitement and happiness coming through the written words as each admission or award is announced; I can also sense the disappointment and maybe, anxiety, when there is a rejection, a deferral, a lost chance at scholarship or FA…
It is a risk to reach very high, when the outcome is nowhere near a sure bet, and just the endeavor to reach is worth applause and support.
No schadenfreude on my part.
Post your new avatars! I’ll join in to congratulate…
@EastGrad If S had gotten into MIT in EA, it would have probably ended there. Things didn’t go that way.
He was forced to move on and look around. It only complicated things a bit. Here we are now :-/
I am glad our team got out of NL central or else I would been forced to twirl my big pearls.
@readingclaygirl What a beautiful avatar
A question, is your school a women’s college?
@readingclaygirl - I also love your avatar. I have never even gotten around to personalizing mine. I am also a fan of the smackdown. We south Florida folks don’t really get much of a chance to talk sports smack anymore…
Thank you. Yes It is. @kittymom1102 However there is also a coed college associated with it but it’s a different college on its own campus and there are coed graduate schools. But Russell Sage itself is a women’s college
I lost my chance to talk “smack” when DS16 chose College of Charleston over Clemson. They do have the top rated sailing team though with several students going to the Olympics.
@crowlady best wishes for your mother.
@readingclaygirl Good to know. My DD is considering women’s colleges, which, unfortunately, we don’t know much about.
Um, I’ll need your feedback.
Congrats!
@BeeDAre You are just the latest to use a term I am unfamiliar with…had to look up “schadenfreude”. Very apropos comment. My vocabulary is slowly improving from time spent on this thread. Thanks for the informal schooling everyone!
Oh, @carolinamom2boys, you can still talk smack! You go, girl.
@crowlady Hope your mom has a speedy recovery.
In German ‘Schadenfreude’ means someone is happy about someone else’s misfortune
I hope all goes well with your mom @crowlady. No time is a good time to worry about a parent.
Since my alma matar and both of my DH’s alma matars are no longer dancing, I will not be talking any smack anytime soon, but I will be cheering for a team in the NIT game Tuesday night. I would gave to actually sign in on a computer to change my avatar though (I think) so that will not happen anytime soon.
I hope it all works out for your DD @palm715 and anyone else still mulling the financial side of all this.
@mommdc Any German word for being happy about someone else’s fortune?
Yes, ‘Mitfreude’
I trust @ChicagoSportFn
I do that very complicated German word for every single accomplishment of each DC here <:-P <:-P
