Ok, we have a little bit a German disagreement
Now you people are getting into wonk territory asking these questions about which papers are written. The opposite is not being happy about it but sad.
Apparently Lisa Simpson, @fretfulmotherâs niece, thinks it is âsour grapesâ.
The wonks think being unhappy about someoneâs fortune is âgluckschmerzâ.
@mommdc I looked up âMitfreudeâ and I think it captures my sentiment, âshared joy.â
I mitfreude every DCâs accomplishment/scholarship/acceptance/good news <:-P <:-P <:-P
I put the only German words (other than âBerlinâ and âBMWâ) I know to come up with what I did.
I was âacademically extinguishedâ in college so not the smartest tool in the shed here.
@mommdc sounds like the German expert here.
@ChicagoSportFn Your German is far better than mine
Been going non-stop since early this morning & ~100 posts to catch up on- wow!
@crowlady - hope all is well with your mom.
@LKnomad -congrats on the count!
@readingclaygirl - hope financial aid works out
@texaspg - well, you know, I could bring up who actually did win the AL West last year!
Thank you @bookmom7
@petrichor11 D told me early on which school she hoped would end up affordable for her enough to choose. I had suspected all along from the way she talked about it. We tried not to get hung up onto the âdream schoolâ mentality, because what if it DIDNâT work out? She always had a backup-or 2-in her pocket. Luckily one of those came through with merit early on, so we knew she had a place sheâd be happy, no matter what. But we all had crossed fingers for that one school.
@kittymom1102 the FAFSA seems designed to mock us, doesnât it? The EFCâs at most colleges we looked at were not accurate, and FAFSA seems to think weâre rolling in money. D applied to only one âexpensiveâ school, and we had a plan to cover costs at the rest (or not, depending on merit/aid). Weâre in that bubble where a lot of schools were off the table if merit didnât come through.
@crowlady best wishes for your mother.
@MidwestMomTo2 My sister went to ASU and when I lived in my home state of NH, I visited her every winter in February, right about when I couldnât stand the cold anymore. She never moved back. My older D lived there for a year but made her way back to Seattle. I love the weather down there!
I have enjoyed the successes and commiserated over the setbacks for all of you. One thing that I love about Dâs HS is that ALL the kids are celebrated, whether they got into 10 selective schools or one community college-whether theyâre a future doctor or auto repairman. I think thatâs what we try to do HERE. Or I hope we try. Every kid is different, even two kids going to the same college, and they all have different stories. Sharing those stories is one of the things Iâve liked most about this forum.
As you all probably know by now-weâre done. D is in the other room looking up ways to put things on walls without causing damage-her dorm is on the historic register. But I will be there cheering with everyone as you make your decisions.
I might be able to help with German, but donât ask me any sports questions.
The only sports my parents would watch were soccer, tennis and Olympic games.
@bookmom7 - I am still getting over having to hate the cards after 25 years in Houston. AL west - we will tackle this year -apparently Astros are slated to win it all this year.
DHâs favorite German term: backpfeifengesicht. Hereâs a sentence to help define it: DH feels schadenfreude over the political candidateâs backpfeifengesicht.
@sseamom One of the attractive points, out of many, of selective colleges, especially the ivies, is their generous financial aid. I guess means a sticker price of almost $70K and you have to pay $25K+ Thatâs generous then :-t
I used that emoji just for the heck of it
I donât even know when to use the overwhelming majority of those emojis. Some look funny, though.
All of these German words is reminding me of spelling bees â which my D used to participate in back in middle school!
@crowlady - sending best wishes for your mom.
@carlson2 Mom of a spelling bee participant here. Although, I never helped with that. It was dadâs stuff, a spelling bee participant in his time.
Yup, us too. Lots of studying roots.
I have a special request of @Cheeringsection (as the cruise director of the SS Indecision)- would it be possible to schedule a nice relaxing massage prior to lounging on the deck chairs with an adult beverage?
I like to have things in order so all of a sudden not knowing is stressful- ack!!
@bookmom7 Sven , your Swedish Adonis massage therapist will be right up and heâs bringing chocolate covered strawberries and champagne.
Please tell me Sven has an identical twin.
@petrichor11 He does, but heâs heading to my room.
Ahhhhh @carolinamom2boys - if only!
