Hi @ReminiscingDad, yes, this is for parents only. I didn’t have facebook until my oldest son went away to college on the other coast. I joined with the sole intention of communicating with him. It’s been really helpful! During the Boston Marathon bombing, facebook was so helpful; I could keep in touch with my son to make sure he was ok, and the parents facebook page was helpful, too.
If your son decides to attend Penn and you decide to get fb, definitely send me a PM. It’s a private group with the goal of allowing parents to have a safe place to ask more detailed or personal questions.
DD was accepted Columbia and Cornell. Wait-listed by Harvard and rejected by Princeton. Columbia has the nicest acceptance. So we have 16 acceptances, 2 rejections, one wait-list and now we get a chance to reject colleges.
Congrats @ReminiscingDad , @frenchtoastlover , @CAMidwestMom and anyone else I may have missed with acceptances. And my condolences to those with disappointing news. D16 has a friend that was rejected from several Ivies today. He’s a great kid and I’m disappointed from him but he does have great options and will probably attend Washington University St. Louis. A great school. I’m a firm believer that things happen for a reason. Still waiting to hear on one more friend of D14, he had LL from Columbia so I’m pretty sure he’s in.
@sbjdorlo thank you, great to hear that facebook was helpful. We’re going to visit UPenn for admitted students day and then if we decide for UPenn I’ll PM you. We will also visit UMD again so he can weigh both of these, his best options. He also has Cornell but he’s not thrilled about being so far from home.
My DS got into Harvard, to my surprise (!!) because they rejected me way back when and I’ve kind of resented them ever since. I tolerated the ridiculously slow commute home through Harvard Square with slightly more equanimity today as a sort of thanks. My niece was WL at Harvard, but has some other great options and also feels it was a race well run.
Does anyone know when we might hear H’s financial offer? That could be helpful. I heard they are the most generous with need-based aid.
Sticking my head in here to fill in the Ivy Day news gaps after getting most of it on the Facebook page @fretfulmother, a big HOORAY on the Harvard acceptance, and I have heard that they are great with financial aid too! @ballerina016, your daughter ended up with such a great variety of choices; you have got to feel pleased by the end results of all her hard work. @ReminiscingDad , UPenn, fabulous!!
We are pretty much at the end of awaiting decisions, with one major scholarship weekend ahead with a full ride (a true full ride, books/travel/everything!) on the line. Also need to see if the financial aid dept at one Ivy will adjust their offer to match that of another Ivy, because the current offer is just not quite doable for us.
So, the scorecard at the end is 15 acceptances/1 waitlist (Harvard)/1 rejection (Stanford). The top candidates at this point are Princeton, Dartmouth, Messiah College, Georgia Tech, and Univ of Kentucky. Yes, quite varied, though mostly in the same half of the US!
