Congratulations to all who heard news they wanted, and hugs to all who didn’t.
My daughter had two Ivies she was waiting on, and she’s 1 yes and 1 no. She is away at a college visit right now and shot me a brief text, “I’m Good- :)” I shot her, “And Beautiful.”
I think after Princeton’s deferral, she put it on the back burner, but wanted to see what they’d say. But no. All in all, she’s 8 for 9 and doing fine.
@fretfulmother: I like that new perspective on Harvard Square!
Nice job parents! Everyone seems to have the right combination of being supportive and offering a soft shoulder where needed. These kids all have amazing opportunities to choose from. I’ve enjoyed following along with you since my kid didn’t want to apply more than one hour away from home- and we live in corn field country! Congrats all.
@LKnomad S16 visited Whitman with his sisters (D13 and D14) when he was in 8th grade. It was his “first” college visit, but really he just tagged along with his sisters who were a sophomore and junior at the time. All three loved it, and S16 said “I want to go here for college”. He didn’t end up applying because they do not have an in house engineering program, but ALL of us still remember how much we liked it. The campus is lovely…with a stream in the middle running through an area with a lot of mature shade trees…I would have studied on the banks of that stream every day! Hope you have a great visit/experience there!
@frenchtoastlover You have many great choices…but I was rooting for Cornell because I could picture you living in Risley Hall…I think you would have loved the quirky and colorful mix of artsy folks there!
We’re on spring break now, but S16 said yesterday that his high achieving friends would be waiting for news today. I wonder if they’re not a bit envious that the slacker of their group has known where he was going since right after Christmas.
@dcplanner, I think the 16 year old is due for a booster of the regular Meningitis shot, but I don’t think it’s recommended to give both the Menactra and one of the new serogroup B shots (Bexsero or Trumenba) at the same time!
Often doctors will not mention the new Meningitis shot because routine use has not been recommended yet, but you can ask to get it.
@Skates76 she has decided she doesn’t want a small college, so about 1/2 are gone on that criteria. We talked $$ in depth the other day, so I think I know where she will choose, but not certain yet.
Wow, so many people did great. Congrats to everyone with good news.
And hugs to those who are a little less happy too.
To catch everyone up on here, S was wait listed from Cornell, rejected everywhere else. So figuring wait list just means rejection, we are 8 wins, 9 losses. On the bright side S is now a Bruin and we are happy. It just seemed like UCLA became a fit for him. They just drafted a kid for basketball that my sister knows and she has been asking me to gave S go to UCLA. So many things pointed this way. My next door neighbor is a former USC Trojan quarterback so the battle is on. Lol
