Parents of the HS Class of 2016 (Part 1)

Great news on Cornell and the Traditions Fellow, @Dragonflygarden! Very cool!

A huge congrats on all the acceptances and the financial aid received by so many as well. You have extremely talented, hard-working and amazing kids – as you are as their parents! Feel very proud. I know there are some disappointments and still stress for many making decisions - it is a really intense and murky process to navigate - harder each year it seems.

I humbly ask that you please excuse me for interloping, my DS is applying for 2017 - engineering - loves electrical & computer engineering and computer science (high grades and ACT of 35) - and decent ECs & accomplishments (science research, robotics, USACO, cyber security, FBLA awards in a few areas, orchestra (violin) but no “major hooks” unfortunately. If anyone might be willing to share any suggestions about “what they think really made a difference” regarding college search/showing interest, applications, acceptances, I’d be grateful. (MIT, Stanford, Carnegie Mellon, Rice, USC, GATech are among the top schools he is interested in, but he’ll likely also consider applying to Cornell, RPI, Case Western, UMich and a few others. You could PM me – I certainly do not mean to hijack or intrude inappropriately on this important thread. Thanks for any tips and thoughts based on your student’s experiences during this process.

I sincerely wish everyone the best as they now make their final visits and decide where to attend - it has been quite a journey and we are embarking on it now so your sharing of experiences (at the parent and student level) and kindness towards each other has been very helpful.

@HiToWaMom The tears are running down my cheeks from that article. Thanks for the good laugh today.

Congrats to all of those with good news today! @Dragonflygarden @missbwith2boys and anyone else I missed.

Congrats @Dragonflygarden ! It’s our favorite book ever. We are way too obsessed with Darcy

Congrats @Dragonflygarden

Weel done by your S, @Dragonflygarden!

We are officially, officially off USS Indecision. Son has officially signed up for housing, sent back all scholarship contracts, enrollment deposit and declined admission to all other schools. There was one hold out until he got his portal password for the last school so he could officially decline the offer. He has done his part to make one person on Clemson’s and Calhoun Honors Waitlist very happy. Not sure if his other 3 have waitlists. Good luck to decisions become clearer to all of your children.

Congrats on the final decision! @carolinamom2boys

@HiToWaMom : Wow, I have never known of such a sensitivity to cold - that it could produce such an intestinal reaction. For you, and for me as well, then, I am glad there are still companies out there sending the hose down the factory lines.

@sseamom: Now I am more interested than ever in the route your daughter has taken in the college selection process, if for no more than the formal wear at convocations. As most of the hosiery comes in my daughter’s skin tone anyway, think I’ll stock up now

Congrats to everyone as we all move closer to loving the colleges that have loved our kids back. Carry on, Moms and Dads. Carry On.

Congratulations @carolinamom2boys ! It must feel great to have all those details attended to. I hope to sit down with DS this weekend to complete all those steps and the rest of our state and local tax filings as well as get some things caught up for the office. DD is not happy that I chose work and all those details over her out of town tournament but the tournament was only added this week and work was not really a choice. Anyone else finding themselves behind on the rest of life and barely treading water with the college stuff?

D has made a decision and paid her deposit today! She is going to Pitt! We are off the SS Indecision. Hooray!

How lovely, @carolinamom2boys! Now to enjoy the end of senior year!

@carolinamom2boys Great! Congrats! <:-P =D> <:-P =D> <:-P =D>

Congrats to your daughter @me29034

Congratulations to @carolinamom2boys @me29034 and @Cheeringsection

Congrats @me29034 ! Feel free to stay on ship and celebrate a bit. <:-P

@CA1543, I don’t know much about engineering or computer science, but I have heard great things about U Maryland.

Some parents on CC who are looking for merit have recommended researching the individual program offerings and opportunities at different schools. They went visiting the schools and talked to department faculty and found quite a difference in some schools as far as undergraduate focus and access to research.

For everyone whose commited and wants to just a reminder to change the color to red on the acceptance thread.

And if you like, you might want to consider to change your avatar so our thread would look nice and festive. <:-P
