DS16 arrived home and opened it- he has been offered a full ride! He said he was surprised, didn’t think his interview went well. He was down to deciding between two schools and this one has swayed his decision.
Congrats @missbwith2boys .
@Mysonsdad -what a great feeling that must be! So glad your son is happy with his plans.
@missbwith2boys - Congrat! How wonderful for you!
Senioritis-not so much that as D and her friends all just wishing it was OVER. They’re all still working hard, but I think next week’s spring break isn’t coming a moment too soon.Once the kids come back it will be 4th quarter and senior project overdrive time. Lots of stress on both teacher and students there.
thanks @kittymom1102 !! I got a cryptic email from DS (who is on a math field trip) saying something that sounded like P’s offer is more generous than H’s but I can’t be sure exactly because it seemed to be written in a cross between Morse Code and Adolescent Male.
@mysonsdad - your son has the wrong friends. No one is supposed to be STUDYING at UCLA.
Why is your school so small? Is it some kind of magnet school?
@Mysonsdad That’s so great that he’s happy and had a great visit. What a relief when things fall into place like this!
@missbwith2boys Wow that’s awesome! Congrats to him!!
@fretfulmother Gotta love those adolescent males. Good luck decoding!
@fretfulmother : You are so on a roll here today. Can’t even choose a favorite, so for you a big::
@Ballerina016 : The question of a blackball list for schools from whence students who are admitted to a college consistently decline to enroll is one I wonder about as well.
Parent senioritis here for sure.
Thanks for all the input on hosiery, ladies. I was living in the Dark Ages. Strangely, guess what popped up in my email from a retailer with whom I’ve done a little business? Not a side-streaming pop-up ad, but directed to me within the email? You got it, a sale on…hosiery!
@Mysonsdad I wish all our kids could find that perfect match.
Sadly, my spouse reports than my D, on her visit today, seems to be feeling more like things are “inevitable” than exciting.
@Waiting2exhale thank you!
@fretfulmother WOW ! ! ! ! ! If P is more generous than H, I can only imagine your family’s happiness.
SUPER-DUPER Congrats <:-P <:-P <:-P <:-P <:-P <:-P <:-P <:-P <:-P
I nervously opened my son’s Penn financial aid (he got his email today from Penn since he’s on a gap year), and if he can apply his full outside scholarship of 6K a year (not sure he can), we will pay very, very little for him to attend Penn. We’re not quite Pell Grant recipients this year, but Penn is still incredibly generous. And, he won’t have to do work study. For him, with his disabilities, that is a very good thing. I’m so, so thankful to God for this good news today.
@sbjdorlo - glad it is working out for your son. What did he do during gap year?
Thanks, @texaspg!
What did he do on the gap year? Not much, unfortunately. He applied for game test jobs, and though he had three interviews with Sony, he didn’t get it. He applied for other normal jobs, but didn’t get a thing.
So, he worked as a cellist for a couple of local theater companies, and will work again this summer as a cellist. He taught cello once a week, and he took Game Design and Game Production at the local CC (Penn allows that). He also played cello in his orchestra and will be playing a solo next month. He is hoping to get a medical game finished and get it marketed by summer’s end, but I have my doubts.
Mostly though, he played too much of his video game and dealth with his health issues. I’m moderately encouraged by the positive changes I am seeing. We still need to get him tested for LDs and get letters from his endocrinologist and eye doctor, (severe vision disability) so that everything is in place when we visit the disability office in August in order to get the best accommodations for him to insure success.
One of my dearest friends is so annoyed with everyone asking her about college she put a sign on her laptop(which she often has out) Don’t ask me about college. There are more interesting things to discuss. Suggested alternative topics include: the election, ISIS, Pride and Prejudice, feminism,
I am happy to discuss Pride and Prejudice with your dear friend, @readingclaygirl, anytime. Or feminism. Or feminism in Pride and Prejudice. Have her send me a PM
a little late, but I join the hosiery topic. I always wear pantyhose. It protects my tummy. My tummy is very weak against the cold temperature, so I must wear it. Otherwise I have diarrhea… Even in summer I wear it because my bus driver blasts A/C in the commuting bus. I’m shivering with purple lips in the bus in summer.
Anyways, I guess NOT wearing panty hose has been the trend for a long time because obviously, Kate Middleton brought back the pantyhose to the fashion scene!! When I read this article, I was like “YES!!”

I love Pride and Prejudice!
In other news, Cornell was DS’s only admit on Ivy day. Today he found out he was selected as a Cornell Traditions Fellow which should help reduce his federal loans among other benefits. We will be heading up for a visit in mid April but I’m pretty sure Cornell will be his pick.
@kittymom1102 - thank you! I think you are right. Congrats @Dragonflygarden !
