@BeeDAre sending my best wishes.
Hoping things go well for your daughter @BeeDAre .
Still no word from Reed. However, it appears they send their acceptances via FedEx, and their rejections vs. USPS. I have a FedEx tracking that doesnāt show anything coming from Reed (it does show two things Iāve ordered), so Iām not too optimistic about her chances at this point.
Luckily I think she will be really happy with Evergreen and we have a nice FA offer from them with a couple of merit scholarships.
She also got the NSLI-Y rejection Thursday, and is handling that really well.
@BeeDAre, sent you a message. I canāt remember if you joined the Facebook group, but there is a long post there about my experience with this issue. Once you get to college, the disability office can be a real asset. Hugs.
Who should I contact about joining the Facebook group?
Yes, is there a link to the facebook group?
Very excited that our S16 enjoyed his admitted student visit today so much that he made up his mind to accept their offer of admittance! He had two more admitted student visits to go, but in the past month or so has been pretty definite about this school, and the different events really showed all of us that itās a great fit for him. He enjoyed the presidential welcome, learning about the two majors he was considering, and finally getting to meet āin personā many other students who were admitted and connected with him through social media. I think what won him over was the much more personal nature of this school over his other two choices, as well as a stronger program in his desired major. The other schools are so much bigger that I think he was worried heād feel overwhelmed. Itās really nice to know heās happy about his decision, which also happened to be the one that offered him a partial scholarship and is most affordable.
And, after talking with some of his new friends, he wants to apply to the honors college at the school and asked some of the faculty about it. They encouraged him that it wouldnāt be too late for him to apply and hoped he would do so. Weāre glad to hear the friends heās started to make are the ones who encourage the honors college program, too :). He isnāt naturally motivated to study, but gravitates toward friends who are good students and does better when in more challenging programs.
So, with his new college gear - sweatshirt for his b-day and free t-shirt for signing up on admitted student day, and a photo with the mascot and his younger sister, he is officially done with his decision!
Best wishes to your daughter and your family @BeeDAre. My D16 has been in therapy for anxiety for about a year and still has days where I wonder if she should be going so far away next year. Weāre having a parent meeting with the therapist soon so Iām hoping for some encouragement, but she could just as easily recommend that we encourage a gap year. Iām trying to be ready for anything.
Congrats @lifeguarding . Sounds like a great opportunity .
I think @LKnomad and @sseamom are able to add people to the Facebook group. Send them a message with your e mail.
Someone correct me if I am wrong!
Glad to hear things are improving for your DD @BeeDAre ! Please keep us informed and accept my many wishes for easier times ahead for you all.
Congratulations @lifegarding on the decision !
So much fun hearing about decisions! I have lived in several areas of the country, so enjoy hearing about decisions in areas that are close to where I have lived or live currently!
@Zelanie We live about 5 hours away from Evergreen and visited with my D14 three years ago. She absolutely loved it and I did too! D14 eventually made another choice, but we still love Evergreen! My D is quirky enough that in the admissions spiel when they mentioned the mascotā¦she was beyond thrilled it was such an off-beat creature (Go Geoducks!..pronounced gooey duck).
@lifegarding 25 years ago I lived in Maryland (Annapolis area), and still have one of my best friends there (in Salisbury). I love the campus and the eastern shore in general. Great choice!
@readingclaygirl - See PM.
Get to share some exciting news!!
DS just found out that he made the National Linguistics Olympiad Team. Placed 6th in the nation. They work with the top 20 to make a team of 8 that goes on to an international competition.
Who knows what will happen but, Iām so proud of him.
Wow, that sounds stupendous! Iāve never heard of it, and I am excited also. Go bookkid7! Congratulations, thatās just great!
Hey, @bookmom7: I just looked into that program, and I am kind of devastated. I wish my son who is now in college had had an opportunity for exposure to something like that. He has just added linguistics to his studies this year, and he is loving it. It such a natural fit for him.
Please know that I will be cheering from afar for your childās team. Awwwwesome.
@Waiting2exhale - I understand linguistics classes at a high school level are rare (especially for an urban public HS). DS is very fortunate to have an awesome teacher- although he had a strange schedule for the fall - only in class 3 days a week so he could attend class at the local university. He has self-studied & seems to just have a knack for it.
Glad you S enjoys his college classes.
āHe has self-studied & seems to just have a knack for it.ā
I really know this statement. I feel so close to you now!
@BeeDAre I saw your most recent update and Iām happy to see that your D is out with friends tonight.
@bookmom7 congrats to your son!
As for the Facebook group-I am one of those who can invite people to the group. PM me your email address. Spell out the domain name with spaces or CC blocks them out.You should get an email invite once I get your address. You do not have to friend anyone to be added this way.
@bookmom7 That sounds fantastic ! ! ! Congrats and best luck <:-P <:-P <:-P <:-P <:-P
Many here are just at the point of doing school revisits for accepted student days and overnights, and I thought to share this with you, and ask for your thoughts.
My daughter is at an accepted overnight at a school whose administration and students have shown her nothing but love, and so was very excited to be accepted, and truly happy to go.
I guess the kids all talk about the other schools they are considering. In doing so, my daughter has been met with an onslaught of comments that she should choose another of her accepted schools and not the university she is visiting - a large university, Div I sports teams, national as well as international standing - these comments coming from both the other admitted students as well as from the currently enrolled students.
Needless to say, this has turned her visit sour, and she has hours and hours to go before she is headed home.
How do I help her through this?
