Parents of the HS Class of 2016 (Part 1)

To all the future Pitt parents, there is a closed Pitt Parents 2019 + Facebook group, you can PM @RyanG1207 for info to join

Stopping by to say congrats on new decisionsite and check in. We’re at the hotel getting ready to head up to D’s Scholars ’ Weekend. She’s been alternating between nervous and excited, but keeping up with many, many Group. Me messages. Some kids are already there, others won’t arrive till tonight. Seems like there are lots of "her people " in this group. I’m more concerned with driving logistics and finding parking, but I’m sure it will hit me once we get there.

@mommdc thanks for the info!

Thanks, @mommdc !

@me29034 @philaskimom it is kinda funny we all had a similar experience with kids wanting warm but getting cold (it happened to me too – both grad and undergrad!). I didn’t encourage my s16 to apply to Pitt because one northern school seemed plenty. Even put off replacing the snow parka he lost last year. I guess it will be worth the investment.

@4kids2graduate it is UMass Amherst – I guess until we put down the deposit I’m not going to indicate it on HTTP://■■■■■■■/class2020

Congratulations, @crowlady!!

@crowlady Congrats on your son picking UMass. Are you in-state? If so, that should save some money. I couldn’t get my D to apply there. She did go visit to humor her father (he is an alum and loved it) but I think she had her mind made up that she hated it before we even got there. She wanted an urban school so driving through all the little towns after getting off the highway was too much for her. Then the tour was just bad so that didn’t help. But I hear that people who go there end up loving it, even if its not their first choice. Hopefully your son will start getting excited about it soon.

Yay for deciding @crowlady and have fun @sseamom ! Currently I’m stressing out as next week is NHS induction and as co-president so much stuff is falling on my shoulders due to clueless, unorganized advisors

@me29034 No we, live in Maryland but he’s anxious to get some distance. He did get a scholarship from UMass which helps offset OOS (also, “go to the school that wants you!”). In addition, he found out yesterday he is getting the $10k scholarship from his dad’s work that he can use for tuition anywhere.

We love the five-college consortium and all the students were met seemed happy and loved the food!

Have fun @sseamom .

So quiet - everyone much be on the SS Indecision cruise.

Yes-a lot of people mulling over choices.
DS is also very busy with school right now- trying to stay on top of things plus making sure work is done before missing 2 days next week for an admitted students visit. busy…busy…busy…

I thought it was quiet too @labegg . Several posters on accepted student visits.

I’m super busy too- I had 2 tests today, a government field trip tomorrow, and NHS induction next week

Busy here, too. Spent the day helping out at DS19’s tech rehearsal - he attends a performing arts high school. We’ll see the dance show tomorrow night and then DD and I fly out very early Saturday morning for two admitted student programs.

Congrats to all who have chosen. It must feel great to be there.

@NUwildcat92: That mind of yours separates the wheat from the chaff with no problem, I see. Impressive.

@sseamom: Hope you and your daughter have the time of your lives. I think we are all excited for her.

@PAO2008 : I owe you an apology for the tone of my response to your comment on the area surrounding Temple. I jumped at you for expressing a thought that you felt important enough to share in this, a parent’s forum, when I should have been more constructive in sharing my thoughts.

I am sorry.

Congratulations on the scholarship @crowlady !

Enjoy your visit @sseamom !

How are you @palm715? Your quietness has me worried but hoping for the best for you and your DD.

Not too busy here, but quiet because we are most definitely on the SS Indecision! Just waiting until after admitted students’ days to make a final decision, but that won’t be for another week and a half, at least. I thought that once acceptances were all in, things would be clearer, but the picture went quickly out of focus when DD got into more schools than we thought she would!

Also hope all is well with @Mrspepper

A physics professor from the school we are visiting next week called to talk with DS (of course he was still at school working on science). That was nice.
Did make arrangements for DS to visit the department & chat with a few of the professors. Now, if only they could pull strings for more merit $… (probably won’t happen so, despite the effort this visit might be all for naught)
