@NerdMom88 S thought it would be hard to eat all the meals (second breakfast, 11sies, etc.) and watch the movies :). Over winter break S17, S20 and H watched the extended version of the Hobbit movies, having already seen the extended LOTR ones.
@mtrosemom We’ll put a housing deposit in at ASU tonight, too. He’s selecting the new engineering dorm for now. No answer yet from Barrett and frankly, he’s leaning toward not joining Barrett even if accepted.
Like @Gator88NE our household has an increasing level of stress and anticipation waiting for the UF acceptances to come out this Friday evening.
My D had a nice distraction from the stress when her acceptance to the FSU Honors program showed up in her portal yesterday. We spent some time re-reviewing the program last night and it made her feel a little better knowing she has option she can be happy with. Getting accepted to the honors program also gave her a little more confidence that her essay writing was on target. FSU honors required something like five 250 word essays on some difficult topics. She feels if FSU liked her responses to those essays how could UF not like the essay she did for them. My D is a very good writing technician, but her style is a little “out of the box” at times.

@CaucAsianDad We’ve decide to not “talk” about UF or any other colleges this week. He’s staying busy with school, track practices and lots of competitive Overwatch gaming. On Friday, he has an inter-squad track meet, so that should keep him preoccupied until 6pm est.
@STEM2017, did you have any problems actually completing the ASU housing application? S can’t access it yet because he has to “pay his enrollment deposit”, which BTW, is marked paid on his portal. If he can’t get to it by lunch I will probably call ASU and inquire. He will be at Barrett if he ends up at ASU. He actually loved the honors college and HC program. But he is not a full on engineering major, he is a CS major in the engineering dept.
@mtrosemom No problem completing the first part of the housing app - paying and submitting the signed Housing agreement PDF. We were given VIP status which allows S to sign up tonight at 14:00 Arizona time. 4:00pm my time. I’ll let you know how it goes.
Someone in Housing told me that first engineers are basically guaranteed a spot in the new dorm. It looks fabulous.
@STEM2017, sweet. S’s payment was not processed immediately (although the credit card was processed!) so he has to wait util next week to choose housing. He isn’t concerned, in fact he is kind of blase about the whole thing.

D was accepted to Ithaca College today, we all loved it when we visited, so that’s exciting! No idea what their financial offer is yet.

@socalmom007 you should get the Ithaca packet soon, they are pretty good about timing it close to the portal update date. FA letter about a week after that I think.

@socalmom007 nice! I had a feeling she’d get Presidential. So Congratulations! It really seems a great option. We fell short but S’s stats are significantly lower so that’s not surprising. 17K wasn’t enough to keep it in play. 20 would have kept it at the upper edge and we would have visited for that.
That said, much as there is a lot I liked about it…I am happy that our only PROFILE school has been cut. That does make life easier. As does not trying to see 5 east coast schools in 4 states in 5 days. Saves me a lot of driving. But I am sad, S has a very good friend who will be visiting shortly and it would have been great to see them both end up there. 2 others from HS applied and there could have been a whole Ithaca theater (non major) invasion. LOL! His friend got shortchanged I think. If you don’t get Presidential it seems it becomes school based and the more competitive the school, the less money it looks like. HIs stats are better than S17’s yet he received less. But Park School versus Humanities and Sciences…
I expected the 17. But I hoped for a tiny bit of FA…not.
D got 17k plus 3k in a minority student scholarship? I didn’t look at the package, my husband did, but it must not be the presidential. D has a weighted 4.0, UW 3.6 and we went test optional at Ithaca and didn’t send any scores. Amazing EC’s, strong essays. We all really liked the school, realistically it probably doesn’t come into play unless the boyfriend gets into Cornell. We shall see.
@socalmom007 That’s still a great offer it seems like a great option if they BF gets Cornell and nice to have something else in play. Any updates on his acceptances?
No @eandesmom , nothing yet other than the decline at UIUC, which he really thought was a safety. He’s a bit rattled by that. It’s his major, CS seems to knock an app down 2 tiers. We’re waiting on baited breath to see where he does get in. My daughter has a lot of good offers, so once they know where he’s in they can figure out if it’s feasible to say near each other or not, stressful time.
I think we may be able to really start narrowing down D17’s list-she did not get the external scholarship she was competing for, so we have more clarity now about moving forward. I think she may do some admitted students visits to one or two, just to be clear and to weight the cost/benefit of each place. We think WPI is definitely coming off the list because it’s not a good fit for her, and we want to do that soon so the half tuition scholarship she got can go to someone else who applied RD. We’re going to pow wow about it tonight before we start pulling triggers.
I am in a thunderously bad mood this morning-the coach of the TSA for their school announced during a meeting yesterday that the “girls had to stick together because the boys can’t be trusted” during the state competition. I don’t know how he thinks that can be accomplished when the teams are all mixed, and many only have one girl on them. I was in rampage mode yesterday when I heard, but the girls want to handle it by ignoring his directions. The entire team has decided to ignore him (they pretty much uniformly despise him-he took over last year for a dearly loved and very egalitarian coach who left to get his phd). We’ll see how that dumpster fire is going to play out next month, but I’m not optimistic.
Plus my photography teacher just assigned our next project, and it’s photographing 25 strangers and getting them to sign a media release. Yeah, kill me now. I despise people taking my picture without asking, and I won’t sign model releases because you don’t get to profit off of me without me getting some of it (which is basically what a model’s release does-gives the photographer all the rights to make a profit off of you). I am leaning towards putting an ad in our local Nextdoor where I offer to photograph people’s kids and in return for the photo release I’ll send them copies of the photos. Plus I’ll change the model release form to state that it’s only to be used for the class project and I won’t publish it on social media-I got a grudging ok from the teacher to do an altered form.
Plus D18 decided to start yelling at me before 7 am this morning for not giving her the exact time to wake her up early. I’m like, what are you, two? Wake yourself up! Then she started yelling at D17 for not telling her when “leaving early” exactly meant. Typically it’s around 7:30, so D17 had assumed that telling her that leaving early meant leaving the usual early. Gawd, just a lot of screeching going on this morning. I was exhausted before I got to my first class (and then found out about the above assignment).
So, I’d just like to crawl under a rock and hide today. Weather’s nice, though, so there’s that.
