jesse’sgirl What you are calling DS18 is DS17 here. High school graduation year.
OK, I read several pages prior to posting. I guess I misunderstood, since the graduating year is '17, and many of the kids are 17. What do people call their kids? I have two boys, ages 18 and 15. The 18 yo is class of 2017, and the younger would be 2020.
Yep - my D17 is 18.
Welcome!
My D17 is 17 years old, but almost 18; my D19 is 15; my D23 is 11, my D25 is 9.
Using graduation years rather than birth years eliminates the ambiguities from students at a particular age being at different high school and college levels, and also means the identifier for a particular child remains static as they age.
My D17 is 17, my S15 is 19, my S23 is 12, and my S26 is 9
Haha, got it. Thanks.
And as you all were schooling me, S17 got another acceptance, to an OOS public. (Very helpful timing after yesterday’s denial.) Now, to see what $$$ is offered and if we can afford it.
Of course, this all gets turned on its head when they enter the class of 2021.
And there’s not GPA requirement around here…we run the gamut!
Congrats on all the acceptances.
A handy acronym you’ll find often used around here is Big MAC – highly sought after (big) Merit Aid (colleges).
I saw that! Hahaha, funny. I don’t know if we’re big merit aid material. We just need enough. Thanks for the welcome.
@Gator88NE Congrats!!! Those stats are crazy!
@“jesse’sgirl” Welcome and congrats on the acceptances!

@RightCoaster good luck on NEU!
DD2017 made it to the semifinals of the Jefferson Scholarship (UVA) and has another interview today.
@BigPapiofthree With a state population of 39 million, things get crazy in California admissions. On the other hand, California does have SIX public universities ranked in the top 10 (of public universities). @-)
All six are ranked ahead of UF…$%^&#…we’re gunning for you UC-Davis, San Diego and Irvine! >:P
Thanks for all the notes if congratulations!
Thank you @SouthFloridaMom9 for popping in to say congrats. That was special.
Thank you @Gator88NE for your thoughts and all your incredibly helpful info.
Haven’t had a chance to post much lately, but welcome to our new de-lurkers and congratulations on all the great news being shared!
S got his official notice that he had advanced to NMF yesterday. It’s funny because he hadn’t said much about it, but he was getting more antsy and irritable as the week went on. He was so relieved to finally know for sure, as we all are. That process is worse than admissions, I think. I wonder if NMSC enjoys the drama. Why else drag it out for so long with so much mystery?
@Testingearly Wow! Congrats! And good luck with today’s interviews!
On more (and hopefully last!) pop-in . . . congratulations to @Gator88NE’s DS and family!!! You are such a help about all things “UF” and I’m thrilled that the family tradition may continue for you all!
Wow, dh and I went out last night and I came home to see a gazillion posts on this thread. Congratulations to everyone who got good news yesterday! I’m afraid to list them and miss someone. But what an awesome night of positive news!
One of my dear online friend’s ds was also accepted to Berkeley yesterday. So happy for them, too. Her ds is an incredibly gifted younger student, so this acceptance was a huge relief for her.
And welcome @“Jesse’sgirl”. There are several homeschoolers here. You’ll fit right in.
Stealing and adding to WOOT WOOT List!!
