** Swag? ** The only swag that’s come our way is stickers from two of the schools. S17 hasn’t a clue what he’d do with them…They will probably just end up in the trash.
He did get a glosy brochure from one of his accepted schools today. In it it describes all the fun activities on campus… one being the annual football game with their cross-state rival where he has also been accepted What caught my eye is their “big game” is a fight for the Platypus Trophy because it is a game between the beavers and ducks.
@JenJenJenJen Had to laugh because I asked my DD the other day if she wished she were going through RD with her friends–answer was an emphatic NO. Decisions for ED2 are next week for her college and she’s looking forward to an influx of new members for their class of 2021 FB group! Swag? Lots on visits/tours. Only a magnet for her college. Love the sleep mask for Barnard.
@dfbdfb —Colgate ED II—yield management. I do not have the figures at hand, but I recall they fill a significant percentage of their class via ED. Some of these LACs have low yield in RD so strive to secure as many as possible via ED to bring overall yield up.
Still no swag here, doubt we’ll get any at this point. The only school related items my son has are some stinky lax pinnies and a pair of shorts he got to keep after a hot and sweaty prospect day. I’ve said this before, the reason he got to keep them is I’m sure the coaches and staff don’t feel like doing the laundry afterwards so just let the kids take them.
@dfbdfb that Colgate note is sort of interesting. I can see why they do it though. If that same offer was offered by one of the schools my son applied to he might actually take them up on the offer. He wasn’t quite ready to ED in the fall, but now I think he would. Colgate probably has some applicants with similar feelings.
The Colgate email would annoy me @dfbdfb I feel as if they are preying upon the anxiety of kids who might feel as if they would have nothing to lose by getting a decision earlier at this stage and feeling they would be happy to get accepted by any school on their list.
If there are any other people waiting for all the decisions, probably mostly CA people applying to UCs and the like, I am with you in spirit. It’s excruciating to wait - had to stay away from this thread for a while because it’s like watching a birthday party from outside that you didn’t get invited to. If you have no decisions and can read this thread and not get stressed out, your’e stronger than me.
That said, we got our first good news yesterday after getting bypassed for the early acceptances/positive indicators at the LA schools. Didn’t expect any UC decisions for at least a few more weeks, but S got into UC Irvine with a Regents scholarship (no idea how much that is for at this point). Also got an invitation for a tour of UCSD and lunch in the dining commons, so I’m taking that as a very positive sign. Whew! 7 more decisions still to come (including UCSD), with a big red rejection expected at the very end.
@smcirish - Congrats on the Grinnell acceptance/merit!
And welcome back and congrats on your UC successes, @youcee!!
I know how you felt…back when everyone has hearing about 'Bama and other EA and rolling admissions. I was feeling a bit out of the loop. Good to see you back!
@youcee my daughter hasn’t heard one word from UCI or UCSD… so you’re ahead of us there! I think she “should” get into UCI, UCSD is a reach. We’ll see. The waiting is killing me!
@socalmom007 The UCI portals changed last night without notice for some. I don’t know if he received an email yet, but I read that one was sent out early this morning. Might check just in case. Good luck! I am totally with you about the wait killing you. He had no true safeties, only a handful of likelies, so it takes a lot of pressure off.
@youcee - Congrats on UCI. Yeah, it is painful to wait for decisions. We have applications all over the place and some have interviews. So getting interview is first wait, then interview and after that wait till for outcomes!. So far we heard from Berkeley (acceptance and Regents invitation), UCLA alumni scholarship invitations (I heard that mostly means admission but not 100%) and UCSB reception invitation (again I heard it means acceptance). Didn’t hear anything from UCSD or UCD.
@ct1417 Maine is an amazing state. The amount of land/trees is amazing. It’s a long drive to go from the upper NE section of Maine down to Portland are. It is quite desolate in the Northern 1/2 of that state. I’ve been fortunate to have been able to explore the state more over the last decade or so. That said, it is a state of the haves and have nots, and very divided. The younger people are more liberal, the older folks more conservative.
I was hoping to retire there, but have decided to move to VT in a few years and spend more time there.
I like being in the mountains and away from all the hustle and bustle, but want access to some “city” life from time to time, so will be relocating to Stowe area.
