Yea, no UF swag yet @Gator88NE but we got our invitation to Florida Days this morning, maybe there will be swag there.
Beats FSU, they are requiring a one time $30 payment to reserve my D’s spot in the Honors Program, by March 15th! Hmm, isn’t that two weeks before UF announces honors program acceptances?
@youcee Congrats and we ended our radio silence last night as well. DD was finally starting to show a little stress from hearing nothing and then Loyola Marymount came through for her. We could see the huge weight lifted off her (I know, 1st world problems), not to mention momma.
@youcee My daughter’s portal just says: We have received your Freshman application. So no change yet for us. I can’t complain too much, D17 has 9 acceptances so far with 7 scholarship offers, so she does have good options already.
So many congrats to those with great acceptances and Big MACs!
@HiToWaMom I feel your pain on the AP front - D had 5 tests to cough up for this year - $480! The CB Scam Machine strikes again…
No swag here, either. Though D’s acceptances thus far are state schools, lol, and we know they don’t have any budget for fancy t-shirts and such.
QOTD: Skype interviews: Have any of your kids done them? How are they compared to on-campus or alumni interviews? Any particular advice for the format? I’m asking because D17 got an email from Kenyon today re: setting one up. I’d actually forgotten that she even requested an interview with them as it was so long ago. Apparently they couldn’t make arrangements with any area alumni so want to have D chat with one of their senior admissions fellows. She’s been very relaxed about the in-person interviews she’s done, but somehow the idea of this is making her nervous.
@youcee I think (but am not 100% sure) that Regents is $6000/yr for a maximum of four years or $24,000 - split into $3000/semester for Cal and $2000/quarter for the rest of the UCs. Again, I’m not 100% sure that it is the same at all of the UCs but I feel as if I’ve read the same value on multiple UC threads.
@thermom D signed up for 5 AP exams as well. She decide against English Lit (same credit as Lang). It was cheap relative to her 1 IB exam and very cheap considering she won’t have to take gen eds in college. Like! It would have been nice if her hs school paid for the exam, but alas!
@lkg4answers I finally found the Regents amount for UCI, $2500/year. UCSB is $6000/year and Davis is $7500/year, each payable by quarter. The amount seems to vary a lot by UC. I think some are even a one time payment.
@thermom - QOTD - Skype interviews - my son has had 2-3 online interview - 1 smooth & 1 almost complete tech failre at T-3 to go!!
I think he used Google Hangouts - recommendations are - test out the technology you use in advance - camera on computer, audio, and internet service - do a trial run to make sure it all works well - make the Skype connection - make sure the interviewer can connect to your D. See where the camera is capturing the shot. Practice looking into the camera and sitting in a good posture without distractions in the room. Wear the type of clothes as if it were an in person interview and present herself that way. Know how to reconnect quickly if there is any disruption. Hope this helps a little. Good luck to her!.
@srk2017 I think for most kids, the library privileges benefit goes unused. The priority scheduling is a big stress reliever and the 4-year housing guarantee can be valuable depending on the kid. The monetary benefit is really nice and can be a deciding factor in some decisions, but I agree with you that it wouldn’t in all cases.
@youcee - I agreed priority registration is the most valuable benefit of regents and housing comes next. Probably faculty mentoring also great, but may vary by major and faculty assigned.
@eandesmom Yay, congratulations on the UPS!! I hope it lifted your S’s spirit. I felt so bad about the AP Calc. sutuation. Fingers crossed for the big merit aid!
