Quick update, my D17 was so sad about the denial at Claremont McKenna but did get word today that she’s in at UT Austin. Its low on her list but 2 no’s in a week would have been tough. I’m so proud of her and all these kids putting themselves out there and applying to reach schools. Its hard to put yourself out there with the risk of rejection…

@STEM2017 I know… I have to stop watching the CalPoly thread. Some of the students on it are just asking the same questions over & over.
I’ve figured out what I want to know right now. CS for in state is out. Now to just get my kid to look at his portal. And find out if he’s accepted, rejected or… we don’t know nothing yet.
@texasmissy Congrats on Texas! I’m surprised it’s low on her list, sounds like a great school from what I’ve read.
@youcee It is awesome! She wants small, which it is not, and we live here so not very exotic… I think its a plus to be able to go to lunch w your mom who ives down the street but she doesn’t think so. She will at some point in the next few years I bet…
@texasmissy I can certainly understand that. One of my son’s didn’t even apply to the school 10 minutes from us, the other applied there and would be very happy there.

OMG… D17 accepted at UT Austin too! She’s getting in many places her boyfriend is not even though he has much high stats. I’m feeling terrible. He should have applied under mathematics, screw computer science.
Congrats @socalmom007. Girls in STEM have a leg up over boys in STEM. Sorry her BF wasn’t accepted too.
@VickiSoCal @socalmom007 Congrats on CalPoly and SDSU for Vicki! <:-P My client (friend now) went to CalPoly and loved it. She’s from SoCal as well.
@WhataProcess I agree it’s tough hearing about it when you’re waiting. But hang in there!! As @LoveTheBard mentioned, it helps to have the safeties/or EA schools locked in. I plan to use that as a “tip” to friends and family.

@sdl0625 sorry for the disappointing news. Hugs. In a year from now it will be a distant memory. We went through many disappointments with D16 and she is happy and thriving her freshman year in college. I know the feeling.

@curiositycat333 Every college thread I followed, the students would ask the same questions over and over, even ones that were asked and answered on the same page sometimes!!! Frustrating!
@socalmom007 Congrats on UT as well. Also, not to discount the b/f’s talents, but maybe your D is just sounded more interesting than her b/f in her essays - I think I recall he has had some acceptances? Anything where they could see it possibly working?

Her essays were very strong, and I do think she’s interesting in that she’s a competitive dancer going into stem, etc… His stats are much higher than hers, but I think he’s competing with every other Asian male in the Western Hemisphere who wants to study computer science. He has one acceptance to a very, very back up school. She has 11 acceptances, 2 waitlists. We shall see how this plays out, tensions are high. Of course we understand they want to be together, but if it doesn’t work out for them to attend schools near each other they’re going to have to consider that. I really, really want them at Cal Poly…

D got a big ol’ surprise today - a likely letter (or they call it a “provisional acceptance”) to U. Chicago! I have no idea how/when we’re going to have time to visit these schools!
