Parents of the HS Class of 2017 (Part 1)

@NerdMom88 At least BC, 3 years is the norm, although some get 4 years guaranteed. Mine did, and I think its helping keep them on the list although I haven’t seen the financial package and doubt it will help at all…

Hey wow, glad you all like the story of my son’s mega accomplishment. Thanks for all of the nice and funny responses!! He is still happy today, he’s having a great weekend.

We went snowboarding yesterday and today he played some lax with his high school team and he’s going to the movies with some friends in a bit. He’s definitely relieved the first half of the school year is over and that all of his decisions will be here within 2 weeks. He’s working on some fun projects at school and seems to be enjoying school right now.

The merit scholarship and lax team offer he received recently is very enticing for him to accept right now, but he is holding out to see what transpires soon. The coach texted him today trying to get him to officially decide, but he told him that he was waiting. There is some stress associated with all of this. His mom and I are fine with whatever he decides, but I am somewhat perplexed that he just didn’t sign on the dotted line and move on. Selfishly we’d like him to take it because it is a good financial opportunity with some upside, but we also realize it’s his opportunity not ours, and the decision lies with him. It would be tough to leave that $$ on the table though, it was a very generous offer. Some of the other schools on his list probably won’t award him any merit money, so the financial swing is huge.

We’ll see what happens. Going to be a crazy few weeks!!

Busy week too, son17 is at a DECA event in Boston, then off to a Model UN tourney at UMass and then his high school lax team kicks off the season with a tournament on Sunday.

Good luck to everyone over the next few weeks, I know lots of you are waiting on decisions and interviewing for scholarships and all that.

I look forward to reading about all of the great news!

@Fishnlines29 I am so sorry. I had frozen shoulder and it has horrible, and a bit terrifying.

My doctor, a shoulder specialist in our area with amazing credentials and publications, gave me some at home PT to do daily. They were seemingly stupid little repetitive things, incredibly painful and by golly…they worked. It took several weeks and being constant about it but it was amazing. I agree on the cortisone, it may not even mask the pain for long.

My shoulders, back and neck are a mess from so much travel recently and I’ve got to buckle down on the PT. I want to do some of those exercises again to loosen some things up and wish I could find the article he gave me.

I grew up in the south where you had a choice between detention or the paddle if you got in trouble at school. I probably haven’t hear of your “paddle” unless it’s the canoe type.

@snoozn — Until I just googled it, I did not realize just how local it was. This article identifies the five boroughs of NYC and the beaches of Long Island, but it is also widely played in SW CT at both public beaches and clubs. The same is true on Long Island, and apparently southern California. Learn something new every day! Am guessing that pickle ball is more widely played?

Interesting origin that I did not know either!

@texasmissy BC - you haven’t seen the financial package? I thought they were sent out already? Some some posters comment that the package was/ wasn’t what they’d hoped for.

@LoveTheBard Gotta love those Germans, they have a word for everything.

Drum roll, please!! We have a DECISION!! YAY!! Dd found out a little while ago that she is a McNair Scholar, so a USC Gamecock she will be!!! :D/

ETA: And my niece who is a sr VP in NYC is going to let her shadow her at work this summer so she can see what “IB” might even encompass (nothing like her dad working in a plant!!) She is super excited about that as well!!

@ct1417 Learning something new here as well. Considering trading in my racquet for a paddle. More fun (less running!)

@HappyGoLucky2017 – and the Paddle season is longer now with the invention of a new ball that can be used in warmer temps. I doubt it will ever catch up to pickle ball’s popularity!
