@Mom2aphysicsgeek – ugh…my graphics were cut off my last post but, it had lots of confetti…congrats!
@Mom2aphysicsgeek Hooray! So excited for you and your D! Great news all around and a lot to be proud of
Thanks, everyone!! Definitely glowing smiles around here!
@CT1417 USC was on the short return end. The long trip was from here to OK and then OK out to Columbia by way of Charlotte to stay at my sister’s for a couple of days before interview weekend.
@mamaedefamilia Thanks. This was the answer to her prayers. We visited this summer and she said then if she could get McNair (an incredibly huge if) she would be USC bound in a heartbeat. Definitely immensely thankful she has been given this opportunity. Top Scholars offers amazing opportunities and the scholarship is a huge blessing.
@Mom2aphysicsgeek congratulations I am so thrilled that her top choice came through as such a massive level. So well deserved.
Does this mean she’ll skip any of the remaining scheduled interviews and get to just enjoy the rest of her senior year?
@Mom2aphysicsgeek, Congratulations!! Such a wonderful opportunity for your D, and her top choice, too! <:-P
Late to the congrats, but yay @Mom2aphysicsgeek!! How nice that your D has chosen USCar. What a fantastic scholarship. <:-P
@Mom2aphysicsgeek Yay! How exciting to get that scholarship to USCar. I am so happy for you and your DD.
@Mom2aphysicsgeek - Woot Woot! Congrats on USCar and the McNair! Way to go!
@Mom2aphysicsgeek, Congrats on the great news and commitment…A long journey ends well…
@Mom2aphysicsgeek , I am so THRILLED for your girl, and you too! All the hard work paid off…one more homeschooler headed off for great things!
@Mom2aphysicsgeek Wow, that is wonderful news! I’m so happy for both her and for you! Wonderful!!! <:-P <:-P <:-P
@Mom2aphysicsgeek congratulations on the McNair at the University of South Carolina!! Great to hear about the huge smiles! Awesome to be FINISHED.
@Mom2aphysicsgeek Congratulations on such a wonderful opportunity! You all must feel satisfied, relieved, and very, very proud! =D>
Still catching up folks
@snoozn Love the detail on your cruise trip! It sounds like you had an amazing time!
@mamaedefamilia What show did your daughter do this year? The spring musical for us is Les Mis and D was so upset she missed Wet Tech this weekend due to stomach flu.
@VickiSoCal I just read your tip on Hilton check-in for our kids - direct on an app?! that’s a good one to know! I have to mark that down somewhere so I don’t forget.
@payn4ward I’m so glad to hear the family is doing better.
@jmek15 How was UMD’s admitted students event?
UC Schools discussion D applied to 3 with UCLA being her favorite of the 3 (berkely, ucla and ucsd). She withdrew her apps though a couple of weeks ago due to the ED acceptance. I have to say, as time consuming as the UC application essays were, I felt they gave the best overview of who D was and felt they were very well written. I was kind of curious if they might have given her a bump with admissions. @RightCoaster - D was really keen on CA for awhile too, but note for D19 that the UC schools no longer give $$ to OOS applicants.
GC discussion - catching up on this and I just can’t believe all of the crazy advice given! Honestly, I’m not even sure if D’s GC gave good advice or not. We came up with her list and I think the GC was just supportive of it. She had her own son applying to colleges so she probably “gets it.” @Cubanmom3 I’m glad you decided to call in the end. That would’ve put me over the edge too! Also, congrats on WashU!!
Roommates D is an only child and she likes having her private space and always talked about how she would prefer a single. However, as many stated, I think sharing a room will teach her some things. Also, I worry about her feeling isolated being away from home for the first time, or possibly boys taking advantage, or just the fact she is now going abroad and will be in a strange city, so I encouraged her to put housing deposit down on suite. I THINK it’s private bedrooms, but shared kitchen/bathroom with 2-5 other students. So best of both worlds maybe? I hope so. She chose Suite as first choice, Double as second choice (which they are limited) and Single as third choice. @Mom2aphysicsgeek And the Roommate thread - just awful!
