Just got back yesterday from our Summer college visits. DD and I toured UGA, Clemson and USC(South Carolina). We looked at these schools last summer, but wanted to go back. UGA is off the list. Had a great couple of tours at USC and now it is right up there for number one.
1/2- UA and USC
3-UNC- with how selective they are, we are doubtful being OOS
4-Clemson
I was really shocked to see how much DD loves USC. Last year she didn’t like it at all, but now it is a whole different story.
As far as Applications, she only has UA done. She has started USC(almost done), Clemson and has the first part of the Common App done for UNC. She really needs to get her essays done in the next 2-3 weeks. The transcript is what is really holding us back. Hoping to have it around 8/1. Her goal is to have all of her applications submitted by late August- early September.
I wouldn’t call July way behind. Perhaps way behind other on this board. My son is away till the end of July with no internet/computer access & won’t even do one essay or touch one application at least then. And even then he has priorities of an online health class and AP homework to get done before he seriously thinks about essays.

I wouldn’t call July late either. My impetus for pushing Dd to be done is bc my last time through this is when Ds was at camp until the week before we started back to school and that week was pretty much spent sleeping and readjusting to day/night hours in our time zone.
Apps just take so much time. It gets to be a real headache when they have so much going on and apps eat into what should be there down time. By the end of putting together his apps, he was (to quote him) “cannibalizing essays and pasting them together.” No the best approach for competitive scholarships (though he still got a couple that way anyway!)
This Dd would never do that. She is too much of a perfectionist. So either she finishes. The major essays before we start back to school in a week (yikes…only one more week for summer for us!) or she loses her “her” time.
@curiositycat333 Ha! True. It’s all relative, though. What I meant to say is: “We’re” (lol) way behind D17’s schedule to have a draft of her CA essay done. It’s not yet like: WTF!
She does have most of her AP English homework done, so I can’t complain.

@jeepgirl Are those the HC essays for USC? Are the ones posted definitely the ones for this class? Dd is reluctant to write essays for schools where the apps are not clearly open for this class in case the topics change. (She has only been looking at USC via the CO App which isn’t open yet. Do they have their own personal app already open?)

@snoozn Congratulations on your daughter’s engagement! Weddings are so exciting! You have a very hectic year in front of you, but I’m sure it’ll leave you with a lot of great memories.

As far as I know, D has still been too busy to start essays or applications. It is going to wait until she comes home in a few weeks, but by then, the school year will be right around the corner.
Speaking of, when do your kids start school? D’s school opens on August 10 so not that far away at all.
D starts school August 22. She gets back from camp on the 27th, so that’s 3 1/2 weeks to finish up her apps and summer homework. Besides work, she’ll be practically glued to her computer. lol The mid-August opening apps are going to be the most stressful.
DS’s school starts August 8th… I hate that they start so early.
We don’t start until September 7th, can’t do anything in Naviance until maybe a week before depending on whether we get a green light or not as there are planned upgrades I guess.
And since they want everything to go through go there…unlikely a single app will go in before then but I am hoping for completion of the main essay, activities, all sections of the common app and essays for at least 2 other schools before school starts. We shall see!
We are finally back from our trip and my son got his AP scores 5-AP Statistics, 5-AP Calculus, 5 AP Physics mecanics
@Mom2aphysicsgeek I heard UofSC app was open, but have not gotten past first 3 screens to see prompts for HC. I assume they are there, but would love another confirmation.
The grand canyon was beautiful and everyone on our trip arrived safely back. The waterfalls were beautiful. We got to go down Mooney Falls. Someone did die though somewhere on the grand canyon the day we came back so it is dangerous.

D17 just came back from her summer program and will try to get a couple of supplement essay done next week. Since I am going on a business trip next week, she will also need to take care of feeding the family ;
Then she will be gone for Field Hockey camp for a week and then booked for another week for her full time volunteer work at the hospital. The field hockey pre-season will then start. It is good that our school won’t start till after labor day, and we are still going to shoot for all essay completion before school starts plus all the AP summer prep work. It is going to be a busy August.
@Mom2aphysicsgeek They are for the HC and I believe the Application is open. I will double check with my DD. You can use either the USC app or the Coalition one. They said it did not matter which one.
Anyone else finding the coalition app thing confusing? Seems like all the schools on the list as accepting the coalition app this year really aren’t.
