Parents of the HS Class of 2017 (Part 1)

I hope S benefits from the practice because he will still have a group of honors college essays to write after he gets the regular apps done.

@socalmom007 That would have been me. For reporting SAT’s (ACT’s are a bit different)

UC’s – submit to any ONE of the schools. The others will all get the report

Cal States – If only applying to one school, submit to that school.
Otherwise if you submit to CS Mentor it will be shared with all the schools.

(It’s all of these cases it’s wrong to send it to each individual school it just costs you more $$)

Oh, hey, I forgot to add something funny-D17 got this big packet from Northeastern and in it was a letter from “another southerner” telling her not to worry about going to school up in Boston, that’s it’s lots of fun, etc (no worries, preaching to the choir here, we love Boston, lol).

That’s not the funny part-the funny part was the “southerner” was from Boca Raton. We laughed SO hard! Hey welcome to Boca, y’all…

For California State school CSU - for ACT scores you set up an account here https://secure.csumentor.edu/admissionapp/actscores/ACTmatch.asp and send the score to one school you are applying. You then release the scores to the other schools. This is for the ACT only. UC, you send to any one school and the UC’s will match them up for both ACT and SAT

I am loving the rolling admissions with decisions after a few days. But the scholarship wait is so long! sigh

@IABooks I am pretty sure that you can pay the deposit anytime and get the “first come, first served” ranking of choosing housing, regardless of whether the Honors College acceptance is in hand yet. When you actually get to your scheduled day next Spring to go online and choose housing, at that time you will click on the Honors suite housing and it will say something about “please check this box only if you are in Honors College”… my DD was happy with her freshman year in Ridgecrest South, and now is a sophomore in Ridgecrest East and she likes it even more! (Sophomore rules have changed now and very very few will be able to stay next year…) Just signed a lease for an off campus apartment for next fall!

@carachel2 - congratulations on Purdue Engineering acceptance

@STEM2017, sometimes there is no need to go for deep meanings. D wrote a short essay about how she enjoyed making lunches for her little brother over the summer.

@carachel2 , congrats!!

@CT1417 , I sometimes think D writes like she is making a living on word count. It is always harder to go from 650 to 500!!

Well, D has been a little wishy-washy about her former love, and number one school since she visited in April. But, she has decided not to complete the app. It’s off the list. Another one bites the dust!

This is what I didn’t anticipate, @MotherOfDragons. She has more time to write essays because there are less to write. So, maybe she could have spent more time on all of them. Oh, well. It’s definitely nice not to be rushed. Her next deadline is for 1 or 2 (at this rate it will be 1) 11/15 early-RD apps.

Also, D was accepted to IU-B Hutton Honors today. Notice via snail-mail. That was our first mail-only notification, I believe. So old-school!

Have you seen this thread: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/parent-cafe/1726192-the-farewell-thread.html?

Someone should ask what happened to Quan.

@hadmeathello – I asked here about 6 times what happened to [2much]Quan?!! was rather worried. But I looked at that thread you posted the link to – kinda sad. Will that be most of our group too in a few months or perhaps we’ll continue strong through college?? Anyone feeling the long-term group hug?

Hmm so D got a letter from a school talking up Native Americans and calling her a perspective Native American. Though she’s not a NA. Has never checked anything NA. But I am NA or at least 1/2 NA but we live 500 miles from Tribal headquarters and my kids have never done anything involving the Tribe so I basically have never bothered to try and count them as NA. So I’m wondering if this school is doing some major data mining and making assumptions. I’m just having a Big Brother moment here.

@CA1543 I have an S23 so I’ll be here as long as I’m alive. I’ve learned not even a banning can keep one away

@hadmeathello Congrats on the honors college!

How long did it take to get honors acceptance?

Another scholarship app submitted. It’s like pulling teeth at this point. 6 to go (LSU, tOSU, UArk, 2 for IU, Villanova). Very close to finishing UArk, Villanova, and both IU. Need a new LOR for one of the IU. tOSU and LSU not yet open. Apps will drag on until end of November.

@itsgettingreal It took just under 2 weeks from the admissions email to hear from Hutton via mail.

@carachel2 yay!! Congratulations!! When did you submit the Purdue app? We weren’t complete until 10/15 so I don’t expect to hear anything soon. Also congrats to @hadmeathello.

@CT1417 if we had that level of academic achievement I would definitely include every single one!! That is an awesome list. Alas, we have the standard stuff that they can already cull from the app.

@STEM2017 the family dinner reference is awesome - it gives the reader a glimpse of what your D values and shows she has strong family foundation. Very warm & fuzzy! S was a bit less thoughtful, but he said he was ready to press send, so we did (well, he did, I just put the credit card # in). We are 5 done with 6 to go. :bz

@hadmeathello and @CA1543, it looks like that thread just got closed.

@Dolemite I think I know the letter you are referencing; S17 got one last week. We’re not NA so I think it’s more of them throwing out the bait trying to get a catch.

@Dolemite I am having the same Big Brother moment. 2 colleges have now sent Dd honors college or additional program information after she has submitted her application to an email acct in no way connected to anything she has submitted. She has a yahoo acct that she created at 13 that she only has connected to her FB acct created at the same time. The only other time she has used that email was for CB for her SAT. Everything she has submitted to colleges has been through her gmail acct. So, when CB sends the scores, does it somehow connect them to an email acct?? Crazy. What if she wasn’t checking that email acct??
