For those of you with children that took the PSAT in 10th grade, was this PSAT any harder or different?
@BingeWatcher, my S and his friends thought the EBRW might have been slightly more difficult than last year and the math seemed a little easier. But overall he thought it was pretty much the same difficulty as last year.
My D and her peers said generally the same thing: math was easy and verbal was tricky, but overall it was very similar to last year’s test.
@BingeWatcher , I heard from students that the math was alarmingly easy in some parts (they thought they might have been being tricked). Verbal had some tricky parts. With that said, D18 went from 1350 to 1470 without much practice (she did do a few practice SAT tests but was mostly preparing for ACT). I’m not sure if she became more skilled or if the test was easier. Maybe a combination.
@3scoutsmom , D18 has a 221 SI in PA, where cutoff was 218 last year. She seems very nervous about the cutoff being raised to 222. You seem knowledgeable. Do you think 221 is a safe score or could it be vulnerable? I appreciate the input.
@Kayak3 I really don’t have any more info than anyone else, I’ve just been obsessed with National Merit for the last 5 ot 6 years;-) That being said I do think that PA might go up a point because I think (no facts to back this up with) that PA might be have had less students graduate last year than the year prior but it’s my opinion, any only my opinion, there is no way PA will hit 221 and 222 would put it as the highest current cut off in the country. PA jumping 4 point is just not going to happen. Tell your D18 to relax, she’s got this one:-)

You’ll find yourself saying that about a thousand times over a million silly things that happen this year. So many things in this entire process just have me shaking my head. (D17 is waiting for 3 EA announcements this week and there has been so much silliness already).
@BingeWatcher D18 felt like the PSAT was about the same this year as it was when she took it last year. She said the biggest difference was that she knew more, and that she knew what the tricks were, for the most part.
@3scoutsmom, I must say a big Thanks to you for all the information you have provided about PSAT prep, DD is happy about her score and more confident.
@BingeWatcher, D felt like math was easy, writing was the hardest, reading was okay.
I started a new thread that people on this thread will likely be interested in: Junior Visit Days for Spring 2017 http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-search-selection/1944617-junior-visit-days-2017-p1.html
Please add to the list if you know of any other visiting events especially for Juniors (that’s our kids!).
What time will College Board release PSAT scores? I guess I’d like to see it confirmed versus hoping there wasn’t an input error on Naviance. Good luck to all!
Wishing all 2018 kids the best of luck!

I just checked, D18’s scores are not up yet
Nothing here either. S has to leave for school in about 20 minutes, I was hoping his report would be up so we could look at it before school but I guess not…
le sigh
Thanks @odannyboySF, that is useful info to have!
So it’s going to be THAT kind of morning…I have refreshed the CB website at least five times in the past ten minutes. I know I’m not alone, and when all us obsessed users crash the site we will have only ourselves to blame. And yet, I’m off to refresh it again. I might have a problem…
Still nothing re PSAT scores on the CB site.
Just saw my S’s report pop up!
Scores out…S18 got a 1500… in Texas so should be good!
