@ShrimpBurrito no finals in AP classes but DS18 has 3 non AP classes (Chem 1, Chinese 3 and Comp Sci Independent study) and a college class to finish up, DS20 will have a lot more finals. The school has some policy for ‘exemptions’ but they are forever changing the rules about which classes you can exempt finals so maybe it won’t be as bad I think it will be.
@dadotwoboys, what is it with the studying at coffee shops? My D has been living in them the past 2 weeks…even the teacher review sessions have been held there.
At my D’s school, you don’t have to take the Spanish/French or AP Chem final if you obtained a gold or silver award on the national Spanish/French/Chemistry exam. But taking the AP exam is irrelevant for purposes of skipping the final.
Does anyone know if there is a printable sample common app floating around anywhere?
I think it would be good to print out and think about, and wondering if that’s available.
Eek - can’t believe I just asked that!
@bearcatfan that’s a good idea! I’ll do some searching.
Anyone know when the results come out on the national French exam?

@bearcatfan Not sure if this will help you, but I found this old version of the common app that can be printed.
I can’t believe that May is just about here. This morning it struck me that D18 has a very busy 2 weeks ahead of her…I think I am a little more stressed about it than she is as she is out getting ice cream right now! 5 AP exams, SAT subject tests on Saturday, 3 regular season Track Meets, 1 Track Invitational, 1 Doctor’s appointment and 2 PT appointments…Prom at the end of this all!
@MAsecondtimer Wow, I thought my D18 was busy, but thankfully we are done with track here…only the state meet left.
May is crazy here, too. Too many school projects in subjects where all year there wasn’t much. It’s like the teachers realized they needed some things to put in the grade book. 8-|
There is a really good local scholarship coming up available only to juniors. Yesterday we pulled together everything that’s needed in terms of volunteer hours and extra curriculars. A short essay is also required. This essay is about volunteering and civic participation - the very subject she had to write a seven page paper on for history two months ago. Thank heavens!
Just a tip - if your kid has to do any kind of essay about “what I want to be and why” or “why I do XYZ”… save it! You never know when you can crib from yourself, lol.
No AP here. But musical and talent show and chorus concert in the next few weeks. Plus some show choir performances. Hoping he gets over this cold.
Then finals probably in most of the core classes.
Not sure if it’s realistic to register for June SAT or not. But have no clue if the August SAT is offered anywhere local.
Spring Show was this past weekend, in the next week and a half… 4 APs (Psych, Eng Comp, APUSH, Physics) 1 TX State assessment, 1 Physics final and an SAT, just because I didn’t feel she was under enough pressure B-)
Heads up for those with kids who are potentially NMFs! It looks like Florida has expanded their “Bright Futures” scholarship to include OOS NMFs. Wowzer. Now I have to figure out how that works. Does anyone know? It’s supposed to be full ride + $300/semester. Is that correct? And is that how it works at University of Miami? I’ll post these questions on the other thread too. http://www.news-journalonline.com/news/20170429/state-lawmakers-reach-agreement-on-higher-education-changes
@mommdc, you can’t even sign up for the August SAT yet. I think the CB is still trying to figure that out.
WOW @suzy100 That won’t affect my D18, but my S20 will be all over the Florida thing if he can pull off NMF. What great news for our kiddos! And for the paying parents! <:-P
Thank you so much, @homerdog! I just checked like a week ago and was told we couldn’t register yet. Just signed her up for subject tests! I’m afraid that date is going to fill up really fast. There is only one test center in my area available. Thanks again so much!!
Hey @suzy100, which other thread (about the Florida Bright Futures)? I can’t find it.
By the way, I think I’m mixing up Bright Futures with the Benacquisto. I believe the legislature has it in the budget to give the Benacquisto to OOS NMFs. Also, I am reminded that the governor still has to sign it, so it’s not a done deal yet.
I think I found it?
Yes, that’s it. Sorry, I missed your post looking for it @ShrimpBurrito.
