Parents of the HS Class of 2018 (Part 1)

Applications are submitted; now we wait. He should hear from his safety soon, but the others he probably won’t hear from until December or January. We’ll do the FAFSA tonight and the CSS soon.

Accepted into the University of Minnesota!

My daughter just submitted 4 through the common app this morning.
I am so relieved-she only has two more short essays for two additional EA programs-and she feels like a weight has been lifted. Now we wait.
Most of her friends are HUGE procrastinators so we are laying low and not mentioning anything to friends…or parents.
She and I had discussed how stressful it would be to be submitting Halloween night with the doorbell (and thus DOG) going off every two minutes!

@swtaffy904 exactly my point! I don’t care where my DD is going, I want her to be happy and enjoy her college experience and take on all opportunities offered from school. My niece ended up graduating without many friends (first two years she focused on transferring to UCB but didn’t make it, last two years focused on graduating with internship) and she still doesn’t like her college experience at all. Sad news but it’s all behind her now.

DD submitted 6th app today! Whew, done for now. A few more coming up in December.

My DD’s list changed as she decided she might want to major in engineering. Many schools just don’t have those majors. So she’s basically just applying to big schools around our Maryland home, with strong engineering programs.

First acceptance yesterday, from WVU. She was very excited! It’s a safety, but really nice to have an actual acceptance to know that the process worked!

DD plans to apply to 3, down from 6 at the start. Two apps are in, and the last is due 12/1 so she’s working on the essays (slooowwwwly). Her top choice is probably a high match, but the other two are safeties and she likes one of them quite a bit. So, I doubt she’ll go beyond the 3rd application because she doesn’t want to look at any others that require an essay :). The two safeties will probably send her decisions in November, but the top choice won’t notify her until the end of January :(.

OK, where are my “procrastinators unite!” people?? D was about ready to hit send on the ONE safety app that is due November 1 but now wants to consider applying for a merit scholarship (on top of Honors) so she won’t hit send. She’s not getting that merit scholarship, I can tell you right now. But she wants time to consider it. Okey doke. :!!

D submitting 3 EA apps with supplemental essays before her head hits the pillow, gonna be a long night! Not helpful that her junior AP stat group hounding her for help at the same time…

My D submitted an honors college app today and will need to chase her teachers to finalize their recommendations tomorrow. She took the October SAT and Collegeboard was painfully slow in releasing her scores - we only received them on Friday. They still haven’t scored her essay, so I’m a bit stressed as her scores won’t be sent to schools until that’s done. We were planning to submit her Indiana U application today, but will wait another day or two since the application does ask for her essay score. We are making progress!

Chairperson of the Board for the Procrastinators Unite! Club reporting here. As of Sunday 10/29, a grand total of 0.00 apps submitted. <:-P

I’m getting my Zen on: “Ohhhhmm. Ohhhhmm. Ohhhhmm.”

Community College is cheap. I will save ALOT of money. :D/

He’s done, but we have FAFSA and CSS to do. CSS is only needed for reaches, so there’s a good chance we’re doing it for nothing. It’s due 11/15 for Fordham, thougn.

Hang in there, everyone!

@sushiritto @suzy100 we are definitely members of the procrastinator club. S18 still has submitted zero. He was just in the kitchen complaining that we are out of coffee! (Guess he thinks he will need it!) Has to totally redo one of his supplemental essays. Give me strength…

Congrats on acceptance @verbal572 & @Astro77 !
@sushiritto maybe try ASU or CSUs, very easy apps no essay, no LOR, 1 hour max to finish!

S18 submitted ED and EA app tonight, and had previously submitted one EA and one rolling app, so now all his early apps are in. He’s in to the rolling one (only took a couple of weeks to hear), so has one acceptance to take off some pressure, but will feel much less pressure once he hears from any of the other three he’s submitted, which are all high on his list.
Three more for him to work on before New Year’s for sure (unless the ED comes through before he’s done with them, which would be delightful as it’s his best fit), and possibly a couple more.

Finally my S submitted 2 applications!! Hooray! He also sat down and knocked out in 15 minutes a 400 word short supplemental essay for a 3rd application he will submit today. OMG. What was he waiting for? He is giving me serious stress on cutting this so close.

I told him that my college intro psychology class told me that he wasn’t doing his applications because he clearly wanted to take a gap year! That seemed to have good effect :)

I’m in “da club”. S18 hasn’t hit submit on the 4 due in 2 days. Thought it’s killing me, it’s worse to know he’s so swamped with school he had 2 hours sleep last night. He knows the deadline, no need to put more pressure on him. However, I may need something to get me through the next 2 days.

D18 has submitted 6 (the ones with no supplemental essays) and has 6 more to do. FAFSA and CSS also completed.

Getting nervous, two EA apps due in 2 days and exactly 0 submitted.

Are people also submitting RD at this time if essays are done, or are these all just EA,ED, and rolling? I’m thinking we may as well put in the RD as we finish. Waiting to hear on one possible EC award but will know before RD due date. Does submitting early indicate high interest to the school? Any disadvantage? I think our guidance office may not submit their part until due date is closer. I can see on Naviance that they did send transcript and recs to EA schools.
