Congratulations @suzy100. Our S hasn’t got any of his common app in yet. He said he is planning to do it today. However he did submit one coalition app yesterday. That’s his first. I have given up at this point. Hoping not to see any spinning wheels today
@bearcatfan, no your existing FSA ID is still linked to your name and soc sec number I believe, and the username is the same, it just asked us to create a new password.
@mommdc That doesn’t sound too complicated. Thanks.
@bearcatfan I had to get a new password this year and it was quick and went very smoothly.
Loving Loyola Chicago at the moment, love that they send their scholarship offer with their acceptance letter! And didn’t pressure to put down housing deposit to get a good dorm…
@ak200008, and anyone else with kids submitting today, I wish you good wifi connections and no spinning circles! Let us know how it goes.
D18 decided to go trick-or-treating with her little brother at the last second. She threw a costume together and walked around the neighborhood with us. She didn’t go up to too many houses for candy, but just enjoyed being with her mom, dad and little brother. It was really nice for mom & dad. Gonna miss that kid next year.
I was a little melancholy last night: her last Halloween at home. As we have done for several years, we went to some good friends’ house for food and fun. Instead of going out to roam the neighborhood like they used to, D and her long-time friend, also an 18, quietly did homework together upstairs. All of these “lasts” are going to hurt.
I hadn’t even thought that it was S’s last Halloween at home! He spent it helping his friend fix his car, which is how he loves to spend most of his time!
@RoonilWazlib99 I think your son is smart for keeping his eye on his status for that safety. The delay could be nothing, or it could reflect a concern that he’s overqualified and they are worried about yield protection. I wonder whether there is a way he could show them some love so they’d feel a little more comfortable?
I felt melancholy, too. We live in a great neighborhood for trick-or-treating and for many, many years our house was the hub, as you can imagine with a ten year age difference between oldest and youngest.
Every year each of our kids invited groups of friends and parents came, too. We ordered pizza for everyone. The moms would stay at home talking and eating and giving out candy and the dads would walk around with the younger kids, sometimes making multiple stops at a generous older couple’s house around the corner where they gave out cash to the kids and had a well-stocked bar set up on the driveway for the adults.
The two older ones who are still at home quietly did homework last night until a group of friends knocked at the door and I suggested D20 go out for awhile. D18 wasn’t interested and still has a lot of catch up to do.
I drove my youngest to a friend’s house where a group was meeting to go with those parents.
It feels like the end of an era.
I’ve been parenting kids for more than twenty years but they are not little kids anymore. It feels a little lonely but I’m ready for a change. I was getting a little burned out.
Are there rules about changing the common app? After my son submitted his ED and 2 EAs, I thought of something he really should have included. I’m assuming that he can make the change before submitting his RDs, correct?
I hate when the lightbulb is slow to go on… It probably won’t affect anything but it would have made his ECs stronger. We agonized over every word, and they probably skim over the whole thing! Grades and test scores, right?
congrats to everyone who is receiving their good news. we have a long 6 weeks wait ahead of us.
You can change it going forward, @stemmmm. I discovered a similar issue here after the first EA was submitted, fixed it for the second one.
@melvin123 - We thought about calling, but can’t think of a good reason to. Maybe to say he took the SAT in Oct and the scores are slow to send and we want to make sure they have them to make a decision?
Would that be a reasonable call to make? We don’t want to be/sound pushy, but they sent him a no-fee, no essay application code and it came with a guaranteed 30-day turnaround on the decision. 30 days will be Sunday. It seems early to call and we don’t want that to negatively affect the app.
Do you think just calling to self-reporting the SAT score would be a good idea to show his interest and that he is updating them because he’s excited about the school?
Congrats to everyone who got their apps submitted.
D went to a friend’s house last night, but seemed to have spent time editing her essays for her EA app and not trick or treating. We finally submitted her EA app this morning, which is great, because now we don’t have to work on ANY essays tonight. This morning, before the EA submission, the “emergency” was her GPA was/wasn’t off by 0.01, but we were scrambling comparing her transcript GPA to her report card GPA for a difference of 0.01.
We have one app due 11/15 with only one essay, the UC’s due 11/30 and then USC(CA) due 12/1. We get a little break. And then the final 1/1 push I’m sure like everyone, we have to prioritize those 1/1 apps, because if her REA school comes thru (high reach, slim chance), then the entire picture changes for all those 1/1 apps.
A lot of work for 2 apps so far. As predicted, just in the nick of time. Phew! #:-S
I was told you can always send an additional resume to your admission counselor if you already submitted your application and wanted to add something. Or if its something small even a quick email to the admission counselor.
Congrats on the submit, @sushiritto !!
So I called. Interestingly, the guy who answered the phone gave his name, which is the name listed in my S’s portal as his admissions person, so that was good.
He asked for son’s name and I gave him his name and ID and he said he would put a note on the app to look for an SAT score coming in soon in case his app was being reviewed soon.
He gave zero indication that he had ever heard the name/recognized anything about S, so it doesn’t sound like his application had been reviewed at all yet. I hope it was the right thing to do to call.
@RoonilWazlib99 I agree with others that I’ll bet they review them randomly or, even better, he is being put aside for honors/scholarship consideration.

@RoonilWazlib99 I completely agree with @bearcatfan and others…my instinct is that he is up for a bigger award: Merit and/or Honors.
