@RoonilWazlib99 that’s great that they now know to be on the look-out for his new SAT scores. I hope that everyone else is right, that files are looked at randomly or that your son is being considered for merit or honors. I always look at a situation and see if there is any potential downside and if there is something I can do to mitigate that downside.
So, I have no idea whether they review randomly, whether your son is up for additional consideration for honors/merit, or if they are slow because they want to see who else they get, but the only thing that you can do anything about is to have your son try to let them know that he really is interested. Interestingly, Capex sent out an email today and one of the things on it was how to demonstrate interest. One thing they said (and that would take very little effort) is to make sure your son (not you) is signed up on some of the college’s social network sites, and signed up for emails. Fingers crossed for him that the delay is because of merit consideration!
The last couple of days have been busy with last minute essays and submissions. I did tell my son that he has to have his next set of essays done at least 5 days before the deadline. I think he has only one more application that he will submit, not sure if he will finish it though.
Sad to have some of the lasts. For the last 3 years he has had his car and has done the church’s" trunk n treat". Will miss seeing him had out candy, his group of friends got together last night and helped me hand out candy and then went out to check out some of the “scary houses”.
We have put 1 housing deposit down, will loose $40 if he does not go. We thought it was worth it because he wants a certain dorm and it is based on when you put your deposit down. He is registered for 2 first year orientations, Both of those are first come first choice on the dates. One of the schools the dates we wanted was all ready full.
Already full for freshman orientation?! Yikes. Our S18 hasn’t heard back yet from any schools and some have sessions full from kids that have been accepted? That’s crazy!
@texas1820 oh my goodness orientation dates full already? Wow!
I haven’t even been here in a month,I was so discouraged, distressed, disappointed. S18, was not doing his job at all. Literally as of Monday hadn’t done common app or supplemental essays or finished common app and EA didn’t look even possible. Then we lost power Sunday night and I thought, oh well, RD here we come. Well, his guidance counselor came through pushing and shoving him, grandparents came through with a Wi-Fi and electricity and we got them submitted at 6 pm tonight! Now it’s up to fate and the whims of admission counselors.
@RoonilWazlib99 In my son’s case, last night he emailed the admissions counselor to let them know of a few updates since his submission in Sept. He also noted his continued strong interest in the school. Sounds as though there are a few of us in similar situations…keep us posted and good luck!
Wow @VikkiG5 !! What a crazy few days for you and your family! Congrats on making it though to the other side!!
Oh man, @VikkiG5, you may win the “goodgravyIdidn’tsignupforthis” stress award. You added local power outages! Best of luck to your son!
D18 got an email today re another interview in two weeks. Everything is moving slowly, but surely.
All these procrastinating posts are going to be me when S21 is doing his applications. Thank goodness I have three years to gear myself up for it. I see lots and lots of alcohol in my future.
D’s lagging LOR finally got submitted with apologies from the teacher for not getting it in when she said she would. D checked the portal on her 11/1 school and it shows everything received! #:-S
On to the 11/15 apps which she will probably do tomorrow, they are pretty much ready to go. Staying away from the common app tonight!
Good luck to anyone still working tonight!!
Lots of excitement in our thread tonight! Three cheers for the class of 2018 in getting all those balls rolling!!!
And as a little PSA to test-taking procrastinators and persevering merit hunters, tomorrow is the last day for regular registration for the December SAT.
The next SAT won’t be until March, I think, so this will be the last chance for many of us in order to make RD deadlines.
My husband and I tackled what I consider to be worse than FAFSA/CSS tonight…choosing the right medical insurance plan. In-network/out of area/co-pays/co-insurance/deductibles/out of pocket expenses. HMO, POS, POS II. So complicated with 2 kids out of network area next year. Is the local hospital nrar campus in network - out of area? Is there an urgent care in network near campus? We have been flying blind and hoping for the best since DD2016 went away. Can no longer deny it with DD2018 in the mix.
@amominaz - save me a glass, I’ll be right there with ya with my D21. Nothing gets done with this kid unless it’s dragged out of him.
@1822mom - what a relief, congrats on finally getting your D’s LOR. But talk about the eleventh hour!
Congrats to all who met today’s deadline!
@labegg thanks for the heads up re insurance!
DS submitted his McDermott application tonight. That application was a humbling experience! His other scholarships apps will be much easier!
Is there a grace period for EA in common app. We submitted the payment before the deadline. However forgot to do the final steps after the payment.By the time we realized it was 12:15am on 11/02
Happy to join the app submission crowd tonight. D18 put in her ultimate reach: Stanford REA. A teacher and a prof added their LoRs yesterday and D18 finished her essays today. It got pretty crazy because her biotech team also had to submit their project today. She’s spent a ton of hours on it in the past week and they’re all pretty stressed out.
I think D18 is pretty realistic about the chances of admission to S. Obviously, it’ll be disappointing to get rejected but I don’t think she’ll be crushed. If she gets rejected by her favorite … well, that’ll be totally different (I think she has a pretty good chance there even though it has a low overall acceptance rate).
@droppedit - congrats to your daughter on submitting the app!
It’s crazy how many people are applying early there. I am a college essay volunteer at our high school. Every Friday during the different lunch periods seniors come down and get help with their essays from the volunteers.
Literally every kid I have helped so far since the beginning of the school year except one is applying early at Stanford! Plus my own S18!
Crossing my fingers for them all!
