Parents of the HS Class of 2018 (Part 1)

Excited to report that S18 will officially be able to go to college. IN at Minnesota. Random last minute application leads to first admissions success. Yay.

Yay @Booajo !

Relief!!! D submitted her last apps this morning. I’m still in disbelief it’s over. We’ve been so wrapped up in this, what will we talk about now?? =))

Thirteen apps in all! :-O. What a big weight off her shoulders, I could almost see the lightness in her return instantly. She’s really put her heart and soul into the essays - which did not come easily at first. I think they portray her very well. It’s out of her hands now and I think she feels at peace. She’s done everything she can…so now we wait.

She’ll have 4 decisions before Christmas then the rest will trickle in, with her top choices not expected until mid to late March. So it will be a awhile before we know. In the meantime we will just enjoy our last few months with her before she flies!

She left to meet friends for lunch and has been gone for hours. I keep getting text updates on her whereabouts, just checking in. So nice to see her relaxing, hanging with friends and enjoying senior year for a change

Congrats to everyone on the admissions! Lots to be thankful for.
@labegg Excited for your daughter and also surprised that the TAMU non-auto-admits admissions came so early!
Gig Em

@Veronica02 Ahhhhhh relief!!! So glad your D can really relax and enjoy her Thanksgiving. Congrats to her on finalizing those apps and sending all the good vibes on the acceptances.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING to this lovely community here who have been so supportive and informative over the past year. Wishing you all a peaceful and happy holiday. I think we can all be thankful for these bright, energetic, resilient and ambitious kids. We are all blessed!

@Veronica02 I’m so happy for you that your D completed all of her applications! Now you all can truly enjoy the holidays.

@odannyboySF it sounds like you had the same conversation with your D that I had with my son. I was promised a draft essay by Thanksgiving. Of course, he made plans to sleep over a friend’s and go to the football game together this morning. I asked about his progress and he says 'Great - I just have to write it down." :-/

Happy Thanksgiving to you and all your turkeys

We are still in the camp of more apps to go than apps submitted, but we are going to relax and enjoy the company of family and good friends today. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours everyone!

Happy Thanksgiving to all!

I am very thankful for all of you sharing your kids’ stories so I can enjoy all their successes, and also for all the support I get from all of you. :x

D got into her number one and got a scholarship competition invite. <:-P

It’s a good match for what she wants but she’s still having reservations about the science facilities so we’re not done. I’m fairly certain a decision won’t be made until spring so all the different factors can be looked at. Faith and social life, science and music offerings, and merit money.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Husband’s a little mopey today because he realized it’ll be S’s last Thanksgiving at home as a kid, rather than a guest, if you know what I mean. S will always be welcome, but it’ll be different next year.

Congratulations @MACmiracle !

Happy Thanksgiving to all. I’m grateful for all of you and the knowledge, support, information and comraderie this board has provided.

@apraxiamom , I’ve been feeling the same way. I do hope, though, that this will always be our kids’ real home. :x

ugh. I never looked at it that way before (kid v guest). That is so sad that I need to put that out of my mind or I will be teary all day.

We still have all the applications other than the ED/EA apps to go, so maybe he will still be home after all next year  HAHA.

I’m sick of bugging him about them. He knows they are due, he just doesn’t want to do them. He wants to get into the ED school. I understand that feeling but we all know that it doesn’t work that way.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving Weekend and give your kids a few extra hugs while they are still home!

This is my oldests second year coming home for Thanksgiving and I can honestly says it doesn’t fell like she’s a “guest”

@3scoutsmom I went back to my mother’s house for Thanksgiving until she died and, even with a family in tow, never felt like a guest. It felt like home.

My oldest has been holed up in her room most of the day cleaning. I swear, I only asked her to change the sheets and dust. Now, she has moved furniture, gone through all the junk on her dresser, and it looks amazing. I heard her yell a bit ago, though. She said “Oh my God, I am grossed out by myself! I can’t believe it’s this bad!” =))

Early morning here. Ran a 10K Turkey Trot in downtown San Jose. D is still sleeping.

D gets her work done, always at deadline, so no worries here. She must prefer the pressure of a deadline. Her/our “bread and butter” app, the most important app, is the UC app, which is due 11/30. I believe she has only to edit 2 essays and then the review. The earliest we’ll hear a result is still 2-3 weeks away. So I’ll get to enjoy the dream of D’s REA acceptance for just a little while longer before reality hits.

What a bunch of really nice people here. Happy Thanksgiving to all.

@bearcatfan , D21 is in DFW at her dad’s. Can your D come over and tackle her room with me?

So thankful for everyone here on CC – special thanks to the parents of the H.S. class of 2011 and 2012 who helped get us up to speed on all the changes in the application process since the early 80’s! And thanks to all here on 2018 for working together to get us get through this process with our DDs and DSs.

So thankful today for all of my CC friends!! Back from a morning hike & getting ready to eat & then comes the highlight of my day - the afternoon Thanksgiving nap!!!

Count me in with everyone else who is saying that they’re so thankful for our CC community. Even though this isn’t real life, I feel like I’ve found my people here. I’m so grateful for all of the information and support, and most of all, for sharing this journey. Happy Thanksgiving!
