D finally applied to an instate safety. It’s actually been done but I didn’t know. Same with the other instate public which might be the best academic match for her.
This is great! A weight lifted off my shoulders.
So then I asked her what major she decided to apply to for those instate schools which don’t offer her major of choice by name… and she doesn’t remember. :-??
Meanwhile someone from the super safety called today–that is the college that could get her through undergrad without loans–and H answered the phone. D was busy and couldn’t talk, so H just said, “Sorry. She’s not interested,” and hung up. :((
Oh my goodness @MACmiracle I’m sorry but that did make me chuckle… You can’t make this stuff up. I’m sure they’ll call back! Hoping your D is feeling a bit better and can relax over the holiday!
My D had her “create a day” day at Pitt and she was treated so well… It was a fantastic way for her to confirm her feelings about the university as well as get in depth about her majors with faculty. She’s so at home in the city and relaxed when we’re visiting, funny how different her body language is when we’re there vs other places. She still won’t commit as she’s waiting on merit from several others but so nice to see her respected and treated so well by one of her top choices.
Pre-Thanksgiving good news in our house. D got her first admission, to Temple. Woohoo. Happy to have one in hand. No word on honors program or scholarship. She still has 10 more to apply to. Hoping I can talk out of one or two.
Congrats to all with acceptances in hand! On the eve of Thanksgiving, wanted to share that I’m thankful for cc and the collection of people and all the wisdom (and humor!) that is shared here. I’m grateful a friend steered me towards this community! Enjoy!
Huge congrats @labegg!! <:-P <:-P <:-P My gosh that is so exciting! And congrats on the weight lifted @MACmiracle! It’s a good feeling! Try not to let your H’s telephone interaction get you down, those calls are made by students, generally working from some kind of script (if the voicemails we get are any indication!) and I doubt there will be any negative repercussions for your D with the school. Just a fun story for you guys to tell later!
Here’s our funny story of the day: D and I were headed to Costco this morning (day before T-day, crazy, I know) and she checks her email in the car to find that one of her schools has sent her a “Decision Made!” email. But the decision is not in the email, she has to go to the portal. Of course her portal login info is at home, but as I said we’re headed to Costco the day before Thanksgiving - timing is critical - so no way were we turning around. She’ll check when we get home…
But by the time we got home, we had both forgotten! Until she decided to hop in the shower, at which point I remembered (I don’t have any portal info), and shouted to her that she needed to check her portal (I’m not totally crazy the water hadn’t started yet ). Of course she said she would check after her shower… :-w
The shower thing in our house is a huge running joke as my D has probably the longest shower process of anyone I know, so her saying she would wait until after was a crushing blow… I even texted my H about it and he replied “I guess we’ll hear in 3 years then…” :)) No joke an hour and a half + later the princess emerged from her room to say she was now ready to check the portal! :!!
And she’s IN at Whittier College! <:-P No word on merit yet, but the message said we should expect a packet in the mail soon so I hope that’s where we’ll find that info. $-) Like pretty much all of her schools I had judged them to be a safety, but you never truly know until the results come in. Feels good!

@labegg, I hear ya! My D was accepted to 2 schools, with one being TAMU, and another which is also a Texas college with very expensive tuition! I am praying for Aggieland!
