Parents of the HS Class of 2018 (Part 1)

@sushiritto Cal’s app #s were behind all the So Cal UCs. They must be beside themselves.

@SC Anteater How do you know? Did they release the data already? I’ll tell ya what, my D would take admission to Cal all day long. I hope lower numbers helps her this year.

@sushiritto Yes, there was an article in the L.A. Times about it

of applications:

UCLA 113,409
UCSD 97,670
UCI 94,866
UCSB 92,017
Cal 89,294
Davis 77,727
UCSC 56,106
UCR 48,755
UCM 23,778

My daughter would take Cal but she’d really like to live somewhere else for a change (we’re in the East Bay).

It looks like applications are up at all of the UCs. I’m doubting my daughter will get into to any that she applied to. We’re hopeful for admission to at least one of the CSUs, but I think we’ll need to continue to look out of state. She has admission to ASU with good merit already, but she’s not excited to attend there unless she gets into Barrett. We will hear from them tomorrow. It’s a bit of a reach.

^^ really interesting numbers for UCs

Wow, even Irvine is more popular than Cal. :-t

We live near Stanford. D has a close relative at Cal who plays a sport and she loves going to his games. So, a Cal admission would be great, but apps are up over last year.

@bacmom My daughter put all her eggs in one basket. I think it would smartest of her to go to cc for 2 years then go to USC (pretty confident she’d be offered the Trojan Transfer Plan) but as with most 18 year olds, she wants to be out of her parents’ house.

D accepted ED at Vanderbilt!! We are so excited

@amominaz WOW congrats!! Great news

Awesome news @amominaz

@SC Anteater My daughter wouldn’t consider attending CC either. Adding in the fact that my husband and I plan to move out of CA once she’s in college, it really wouldn’t be possible either. We’re looking for a job transfer to NY or Boston, but where and when is up in the air, so having her settled somewhere before we go is important.

@amominaz nad @ShrimpBurrito - Wowowow wonderful news! Fantastic! <:-P <:-P <:-P

Thanks to @AmyBeth68 who sent me a message, I thought I’d come back with an update - my son was accepted early decision to UPenn! We are so stunned - we really just didn’t know what his chances were. He is so excited. He got a good financial aid package, but now to figure out the rest.

congrats @ShrimpBurrito on Trinity & mega scholarship - great news!

Looks like the UC’s announced Freshman 2018 application volumes today with UCLA leading the way with 113,409 applications! Shattered last year’s record level. Every single UC has crazy high apps - the good news is applicants can only go to one and I’m sure many kids apply to 4 or 5.

I am stunned at how much can happen in just a few hours around these parts! :open_mouth:

@glido , Bummer about the deferral! Best wishes for the next few months.

@sushiritto , Holy Award! Congratulations!!!

@stemmmm , That has got to be so exciting. Yay!!

@amominaz , WOW - fantastic!!! That student body is voted happiest in the U.S. and Nashville seems like a heck of a place to live!

@MomtoCon , Woohoo! Wonderful school (and in our backyard too).

Best of luck to all getting decisions soon!! I’m thinking of and rooting for all of our CC posse. [-O<

@amominaz Wow that is awesome. We were there last Friday for a visit and my Dd loved it although we would have to pay full price which is not optimum

Congrats @amominaz on Vanderbilt!
Congrats @zomaya99 on Yale!
Congrats @momma2018 and @momoutwest on UVM!
Congrats @stemmmm on Northwestern!
Congrats @MomtoCon on Penn!

Special Congrats @ShrimpBurrito on Trinity with such a nice scholarship!

Just sat down and opened our parent thred and smack dab in the middle of the screen was @ShrimpBurrito’s post that someone had reported the Trinity portal had updated, which of course made my stomach turn because we too were waiting on a Trinity decision…

Who know maybe we can meet up because DD2018 was also accepted at Trinity University with $17k per year President’s Scholarship (no invite though).

I’m so happy for you, @amominaz and @MomtoCon! Wonderful news!

@labegg, sending great vibes to your D on Trinity.
