Congratulations to those reporting acceptances and nominations and scholarships!! So happy for everyone! =D>
@my2caligirls and @SC Anteater - congrats on the early notice from SDSU! We were hoping my D’s portal would be updated with the good news today too, but it still says pending. Looks like we’ll be waiting until March. It’s great for you to have that notice before the holidays!
Thanks - much appreciated. Hopefully they will trickle some more out - otherwise Feb/March will work out for you.
I love this group!
Congratulations to all who got acceptances in the last couple of days.
I love how supportive this community is.
@CalGal17 where do you live? Lots from our school applying to Western Carolina, UNCC, and UNC-A as well (just not us).
We (all of us here on CC2018) are are still going strong, almost at the halfway point for senior year! Go team!
@SC Anteater and @my2caligirls - Congrats on the acceptances! You definitely win the prize for the best weather so far of the group!
Hurray for the SDSU acceptances! I’m an alum, too. The school seems to keep getting better and better. Proud to be an Aztec!
Finals are over! <:-P
I’ll share a cute moment from last night, when D opened her rattly box from Trinity. It had a hard copy of her acceptance letter, a personalized handwritten note from her AO, and a banner that said something like “Tiger Pride Class of 2022.” She was oddly stunned by it all. She couldn’t get over the handwritten note. She held up the banner and said, “Wow, all of a sudden this is REAL. I could be done! I really like Trinity. I could accept this nice offer and be done.” She thinks for awhile, then gives us a sly smile. “But I won’t.”
I think she’s enjoying this.
So what are your child’s plans for the winter break? D will swim two-a-days, and take a road trip with all of us for a couple of days to see extended family. She will have NO homework.
I hope D will chill and enjoy the company of her older sis home from college for break, but I also see some applications going out. She’s got one acceptance, but it’s the one that I think meant the most to her so I see the rest as no stress. She won’t commit yet to the EA school - and I don’t blame her - but paying for apps at schools where I question she would attend after that acceptance will be hard! Still, she’s applying to fewer schools than her sister so I’m letting it roll.
Winter break - my boys have high school exams until the 22nd. DH and DS18 have dentist appointments on the 22. DD has a follow dental appointment on the 27th for her wisdom teeth extraction yesterday. Trying to get DD16 a dermatology appointment and an appointment with her primary care before Dec 28th. All of us have eye appointments on the 27th. DH and DS18 will try to get follow up dental appointments before the 28th if possible.
DS18’s GF gets home on the 21st. He has three scholarship applications to write over or before the break. DD16 is paying harp at our Christmas eve service so it’s a mandatory attendance for the boys. She has one scholarship ap to write over the break.
We’ve rented a beach house in Galveston Dec 28th - Jan 2nd no wi-fi, oh no what will we do!! We are bringing the dog who LOVES the beach. DD16 has some college friends that will be joining us for a couple of days. We plan on low stress family time with board games and cooking and romps on the beach. My Christmas present to myself was a used ex-library copy of “The Galveston that Was” and I hope to visit some of the historical landmark buildings that still remain. We’ll also do Moody Garden’s Ice Sculptures and The Pier.
January 5th DS20 officially starts PSAT/SAT prep and has an appointment with a tutor.
D18 was accepted at Elon and was awarded $6k for the Presidential Scholarship. She still has a few scholarships in process so am hopeful more are awarded.
Congrats to everyone for their great news as well.
@ShrimpBurrito cute story!!! congrats on her Trinity acceptance!!! We are taking our D’s 18 & 15 to NYC for a pre-holiday trip to NYC. Going to see Anastasia (my Russophile kid is excited), eating some great food (Ukranian and Brazilian), doing a boozy brunch, seeing the tree, taking in the lights and then zipping back over the bridge for Christmas with our family. Other than that my Jr in college is substitute teaching as much as humanly possible (she’s a go getter lol) and my D18 is working on all her projects/papers for her classes. Our HS only gets a week off for the holiday so she is limited in her time for decompression. My college kid will work almost daily before heading back in mid January :).
On another note…my D18 got her 3rd acceptance today… Rutgers. Not unexpected…but with no merit attached (yet?). The most bizarre and impersonal acceptance yet (which is saying a lot based on our experience with Delaware). I am a marketing professional and some of these universities could really up their game a bit…I mean seriously show a little love. I understand there are differences with public vs private but they can still TRY a little. Very undewhelming but hoping to see a nice merit package in the future.
daughter got up from her sick bed to check her Elon portal and she is in! Now we have to wait until she finishes her dance BFA audition one month from now. I could not get an answer on any scholarship money and I’m not sure if the give an award before the audition but I’ll check to acceptance tomorrow.
She will drop in for dance classes and run her solo. Trying to squeeze in a dental appointment and then hopefully just fun!!
In town for Christmas then heading to CO to ski (if they have any snow!). Probably the last family ski trip for quite some time since I am guessing D18 will want to be home over the college breaks to visit with friends who are also home.
Congratulations to acceptances today: @Clementine7624 @my2caligirls @glido @SC Anteater @shrimpburrito @memmom2018 @amom2girls @AmyBeth68, and sorry if I missed anyone. Like @swtaffy904 I really appreciate how supportive you all are. Now that my lurking days are over, I want to tell everyone that reading these posts (almost) always makes me smile and/or laugh out loud!
My S just texted me from an after-school meeting – he was accepted to Case Western Reserve with $33K and he’s happy … but … that amount is $11K less than what the NPC estimated. My heart is sinking, since he really likes Case and it would be a good fit for him, but …I have to crunch numbers and hope they work in his favor. He is NMSF so if he does proceed to finalist, he will have a hard time convincing me on Case when he has other options available for much, much less.
@suzy100 Blasphemy! :-t OTOH, maybe my D can slip into your D’s spot. >:)
Vacation plans? The best of both worlds, more apps and the beach :))
Congrats on all news!
@hafamama, congratulations to your son, although that’s a tough situation about the $$ - something I think many of us will be taking a hard look at as we weigh options with our kids over the next few months.
@AmyBeth68 we have also not seen anything impressive with the acceptance mail. D has been accepted to 3, 2 large universities, 1 small private. Generic letters that likely went out the same to everyone. I agree that they should ‘up their game’. That said in March if her #1 choice accepts her it can be scribbled on a scrap of paper and she will be thrilled
From what I can see, perusing these posts, admissions are so unpredictable. As one poster had said earlier, the rules, wants, and whims of adcoms are constantly changing. All our kids can do is put themselves out there each as the genuine article, which will be appreciated by the right college. All this being said, congrats to all the great news on this thread!!
@hafamama Congrats - Case is a great school! Go back to them and tell them it his first choice but he needs more$ to attend. I bet they up their offer.
