Congratulations to all who have acceptances POP this week!! What a month!!
We officially submitted our last application around 8:30pm EST last night since it is exam week and today is study day it was the one night we could do it stress free! Stage 2 “applying” is complete!
D18 went to bed at 9:50 and came right back down the hall…Elon had emailed and she is in!! Very excited as this is one she very interested in, but no merit and with all she received from the other admits it is now the most expensive even though it has the lowest cost of attendance…so vacation will be working on the Elon scholarship apps and other scholarships.
Congratulations @amom2girls and @memmom2018! It is always fun to see others into the same school!
@amominaz I laughed when I read your post as we are from RI ( wish it was HI) but I know that has been a slight advantage in some of our mid-west/south schools and we will take it!
S18 was invited to enroll in Franciscan’s Honors Program, if he attends. He’s excited about the class offerings. Today is also the day he finds out Furman’s EA decision.
It took longer than usual, despite just laughing gas. The surgeon tried to give me gory details on how one tooth was troublesome, didn’t want to cut into bone, blah blah. That one tooth took longer than the other three combined. But, she is home and my husband is going to get her prescriptions.
He kind of love-hates our family. My youngest child had to have the roof of her mouth cut open to get to the teeth he needed to extract for braces. So he personally came out and called me by my first name. =))
S18 was accepted to Case Western last night with $25k scholarship. Very excited and proud! Winter break plans? More applications (Stanford, Harvey Mudd, Carnegie Mellon) and a quick trip to visit his girlfriend in SoCal. Congratulations to those getting good news. And hugs to those with declines and deferrals. Some of these have me shaking my head in confusion. Your kids scores are amazing so it all seems very random!
Long week, S18 got into Providence but no merit$. From some of the PC pages, plenty of deferrals and not many people announcing $, so we’re grateful. It’s among his top choices. Still waiting for his red envelope from St Joseph’s to arrive and the Nova announcement by portal tonight. Expecting deferral there…I’ll be an hour away watching D21 run in a track meet, so told him he doesn’t have to wait for me, but to please call as soon as he knows anything! :-S Hoping he’ll squeeze in some more applications while relaxing over break. He’s only applied to those few so far…

@bacmom you were not the only one who didn’t get an earlier admit to SDSU yesterday. ** whine alert ** My D is also still pending and I gotta admit I’m a little salty about it :-w she’s local area high stats non competitive major, what gives? I saw a kid post to the SDSU thread his stats admitted to her major and they were lower! :-? So to me, that means ultimately I know she’s in because SDSU is purely stats based admission but I don’t get why she’s still in pending status… The embarrassing thing is I’m salty, D could care less as it’s not her top choice and really not even in the running anymore. It’s the principle of the thing! Right? 8-} ** whine off ** Whining aside I am truly happy and excited for those here who got their acceptance!! It’s a great school! >:D<
Break plans: D finished last Fri and pretty much immediately collapsed with some cold. She’s been on the couch ever since. Yesterday she ventured out with friends but may have over done it. She’s back to resting today. Unfortunately she does have hw over break and had planned to work on it early because family starts arriving in town tomorrow. So she’s behind. :-< we are travelling to Texas between Xmas and New year’s to play our own version of “house hunters”
Acceptance mailings: nothing compares to the charm Agnes Scott sent and she pretty much compares everything to that at this point :)) but I will say we’ve gotten a few that clearly have effort put into them. No personal notes though. We got 3 in one day and D complained that the letters were nearly identical. She wondered if all adcoms got together to agree on language for acceptance letters!

No real plans for break. S’18 is in finals all week this week and then off for a few. Older son is coming home Dec. 24 and his girlfriend arrives Dec. 30. So, we’re just going to do family stuff in the area.
Just received a text from S’18 (as I am writing this post) that he just heard good news from the school where he had a music scholarship audition a couple of weeks ago. He successfully passed the audition stage and is now under review by the scholars program. He won’t hear back about finalist status until February, but that should put an extra bounce in his step. This is a school he really likes.
S18 knows the out-of-pocket number Furman (and the other remaining colleges) have to meet/beat in order to stay in the running. He’s fine with the parameters. We’ve had the financial talk months ago. We think he may end up at Franciscan (for many reasons) but of course many colleges are still in the mix. It’s not over yet!
I think that’s so smart to have the financial discussion well in advance. Realistic expectations for all. I have friends who didn’t do that with their kids and then kids were shocked/disappointed/enraged when the parents nixed schools because of the financial aid package.
Holiday plans include the Biltmore House, lifeguard recertification, homework, and scholarship applications! So ready to be done with these applications!
D is now batting 1 for 2. She’s batting .500. She had a couple finals until 1 PM today, but just showed me her acceptance to Michigan. She has somewhere to go now. :-c <:-P
