YAY for Michigan, @sushiritto! Great school! I wanted D to apply but she said it was too cold. Uh…
Best of luck to all getting decisions today and congratulations to everyone getting great news!

@suzy100 Before I went up to Ann Arbor for grad school, everyone warned me about the cold so I went out and got a very warm coat. Winter came and the other students looked like normal kids but my coat made me look like I was on an Arctic expedition.
@sushiritto Congratulations on the acceptance.
S18 texted from lunch at school - he was accepted to the College of Engineering at University of Michigan! He is OOS, so he is pretty excited. That is his first super selective admit and while I wish he were home to celebrate, I bet it’s nice that he is with his friends.
A couple decades ago, H landed a short fellowship at UMich, so we moved up to Ann Arbor. Jan-April. By my count, there were two days when the sun came out, and one of those days was so windy I could barely close the front door.
Big congrats @sushiritto! I think I can hear the sigh of relief from here!
@RoonilWazlib99 Yay!!!
@ShrimpBurrito True about Ann Arbor. I could count all the sunny winter days on one hand.
Just got a text from DD - “Last exam is finished. I’m a second semester senior!”
Yay @sushiritto and @RoonilWazlib99 on Michigan!!
Yay to all the other acceptances on the earlier pages (can’t scroll back right now but there was lots of good news)!
CONGRATS @sushiritto!!! and @RoonilWazlib99 on Michigan! <:-P <:-P <:-P @sushiritto I know you must be feeling particularly relieved to have dodged that McD’s bullet eh?
@LOUKYDAD congrats on the Singletary invite!! How exciting! I seem to recall your S has bounced a bit back and forth between UK and was it U Louisville? Is this scholarship one of those deciding factors for him?
Chiming in to say that I too lived in A-squared for 2 years. Loved it much of the year, but not December. Grey grey grey. Had my first child there too. S did not apply–too big and too expensive OOS for us. Would highly recommend it for grad school though.
congrats @sushiritto & @RoonilWazlib99!!! Very happy for your families.
S18 got accepted to Furman, with a $25K belltower. It replaces the $20K Furman scholar scholarship he got as a junior.
Thanks everyone! That Stanford rejection is now in the rear view mirror. While UM isn’t her #1 choice at the moment, it’s just nice to have one in the pocket. “Break glass in case of emergency” kinda thing.
If D does land at UM in the Fall 2018, then she can come home for the holidays and I’ll drive her around town with the top down here in sunny CA. It’s only 4 years and it hits one of her hot buttons, which is a big time D1 sports program.
@1822mom Bummer! Just like @melvin123 did many pages ago, gosh darnit, you beat me to the punch. DILLY! DILLY! :-bd
DD has been stressing this week about having 1st&2nd period free next a semester, she claims it “just doesn’t feel right, I should be learning something”. I suspect it has more to do with not getting a closer to the building parking spot. So she has been trying to wiggle her way into a closed class for social media marketing with no luck, the guidance counselor has offered her…
Are you sensing a theme? She cannot take a dual enrollment class in the AM, they are only offered in the afternoon and most are full year courses. She can’t take a class at the local CC because they do not start until 8am which is after the start of 2nd period, so not enough time to get back to school for 3rd period, So, DD suggested AP Government, but the school will not allow her to take it because she took non -AP Government this summer and earned an A, supposedly she would have “an unfair advantage”? She has asked to TA a class so we will see if that can be approved. It seems sort of absurd that she can’t be squeezed into something useful.
This is a prime example of how fickle a teenage mind can be, last spring a late arrival opportunity sounded fantastic, lol!
I’d take the sports class, but that’s just me.
When D couldn’t fit AP Comp Sci into her schedule back in August, she was offered African Drumming or Sports Leadership. She took, well, you know, not the drumming. :))
Thx @1822mom!
Yes it is between those two. I think he has a decision tree kind of approach in his mind based on what happens. First need to find out if he is NMF. Then if he gets Brown Fellows (full ride plus funded summer study abroad and/or research experiences) or GEMS (guaranteed med school admission) at Louisville. Yes on one or both of those then Louisville. No then UK.
If he is NMF, the Singletary at UK would be more of a neat honor than a difference maker. The best we can tell it is equivalent in all ways to their automatic Patterson scholarship for NMFs.
Everything submitted. Just have to let it play out. Nice and chill here in the Ville.
@labegg DD was stuck with Americans at War and Film Studies this semester due to scheduling. She enjoyed both but not something she would of chose if given a choice.
Good news to report here … S was admitted EA to Villanova this afternoon.
And a little irony too … As much as he dragged his feet on writing the Common App essay, he is talking about applying to one more school RD in part because, of all reasons, he is intrigued by its essay questions.
D18 accepted to Furman with $15k Belltower Scholarship. So proud.
DS deferred VBS(not unexpected, but still was his #1 choice) accepted at Saint Joseph’s U, honors college with Presidential Scholarship of $22.5k per year. Not his #1 or #2 choice but that upped it’s odds. Plus he just feels so good tonight. Made my heart happy! Still want him to put in some more apps over vacation. He’d only applied to 4 EA schools to-date.
