wonderfult news. Congrats to your daughter @ShrimpBurrito

Congrats @ShrimpBurrito I know that was a big one

You all rock. Thank you for the kind words. :-*

D got an email from UBC today, letting her know that her application is now under review for early admission. :-SS She will soon either be accepted or deferred–I don’t think they do denials at this stage.

Granted, D was really tired after a long, frustrating day (she’s wrestling with Physics homework and a bum swimming shoulder), but she seemed kinda freaked out tonight about all of the exciting news she’s gotten today. It’s really happening, and she may have to make a very tough decision. And then move far, far away. :-S

Congratulations @ShrimpBurrito !

@ShrimpBurrito - that is a little where my D is right now.

December 15: “woohoo!! I got into Vanderbilt, my dream school”…

December 16: “yikes. I actually have to move to Nashville from AZ away from all my friends and family (especially BF who will still be here)”

@ShrimpBurrito Fantastic news, congrats

Congrats @ShrimpBurrito’s D! My daughter will probably go far away, but I did insist on one West Coast safety that she is kind of luke warm about. If she doesn’t get into the two match schools on the west coast, then she’d be going 1000s of miles no matter what, I thought it would be good to have the option to stay close-ish if she decides she wants to.

She still has 4 applications planned, all due next Monday. It’s going slooooowly. I’m not bugging her, really. She has acceptances and money already. She doesn’t really have to apply to these last 4. We shall see.

@ShrimpBurrito WooHoo!!! Awesome news!!!

@ShrimpBurrito didn’t she apply to OU? I made my kid pick one semi-local school just in case

Hello, all. It’s been ages since I posted so I thought I’d update. DD applied to a total of 8 schools and has heard from 7. She did apply ED to Syracuse (Newhouse School of Communications) and was accepted just before we left for Christmas vacation. Thank goodness or she would have spent the whole 2 weeks in Europe looking for Wi-Fi and obsessively checking the portal!

Her list, all acceptances with merit aid ranging from $0 to $22k. Since she applied ED to Syracuse there will be no hand-wringing!

Syracuse (ED)
Butler (EA)
Miami Ohio (EA)
Ohio University (EA)
Auburn (EA)
Loyola Chicago
Elon (EA)

Just waiting on Clemson but it’s moot at this point.

Good luck to all still waiting!

Nope, @Booajo, she did not apply to OU. D says she really wants to stretch herself, and that if she applied to OU, she’s afraid she’d panic at the last minute and pick the easy/comfortable option. H and I have always been risk-takers, and I’m proud that D sees the value in going way outside her comfort zone.

At the moment I think she’s more freaked that she’s going to have to make a very tough decision. Last night she nervously said that all three (McGill, UBC, USC) are her #1 favorite. It’s not like choosing between three similar options; they each offer very different experiences and opportunities. I’m hoping the picture will be clearer by the time she really has to decide. Maybe she won’t get in to USC–that sure would help clear things up!

@ShrimpBurrito sounds like my kid. Shes been frustrated by the college admissions speeches that talk about location or something and dont talk about course work or freshman academics
And congrats on McGill!

Just to break the cycle my D did apply to W&M. RD. Accepted at one public univ w/honors and $$. Waiting on 10 Schools. Most of the ones we looked at were not EA or rolling. Just ED or RD.

@2014novamom Whoo-hoo on Syracuse!

I went to Newhouse back when there was only one Newhouse building, lol.

@daffodilpetunia we made dd apply to one in state. There are only two with her major and one she despises so the choice was easy. The other is very close to home but she has no intention of attending. She also applied to 2 others on the west coast but most likely she is going far, far away.

@curiouspup did your D visit W&M before applying?
