Too much tough news on the thread this week! :(( We are definitely in a winter doldrums around here. I feel so sad for all the kids and parents who’ve taken hits recently!!
Glad to see some positive news and some positive attitudes out there! These awesome kids will all survive this, and will all find their place!
Congrats to @traveler98 's S on his unexpected move up the ranks! And congrats to all the recent admittees to FSU!! <:-P <:-P <:-P Especially @dadotwoboys ’ S getting his FIRST admit of the season! That’s HUGE, and exciting! It’s nice to have these wins in our column when things have been so rough.
Things are pretty quiet around here. D has done a couple of scholarship interviews, I don’t really expect much to come of them, they were surprise bonus invites for her, but the experience has been great, and I see that she’s gaining confidence with each interaction (regardless of the final outcome). So it’s all a win as far as I’m concerned. This was a girl that would not consider doing admissions interviews, and hated the idea of talking to admissions people in general, such interactions tended to be awkward and kinda cringy. But she’s grown up a lot in the last few months. Confidently driving the college bus, and while she was initially squeemish about these interviews, after we assured her we didn’t care about the outcome, we just wanted her to get the experience, she opened herself up to it and has blossomed. I’m very interested to see how this kid grows and changes during her college years! And to all of you lurkers with younger kids, it really is true, they change so much over the last 2 years, and a lot of that in the last year of HS. It’s hard to believe until you see it in your own kid, but it really is true.
Thanks also go out to the Texans here who talked me down off my anxiety ledge for my HS-bound D22. I really appreciate the voices of experience and reason. >:D<
@thespian18 There was actually a very popular thread about a boy who found himself in that situation from several years ago. What makes it a cool story is that the parent came back to update later and things turned out well for the boy in the end after a gap year.
Someone told me admission updates were posted in the portal for the tied for Number 1 school … and my baby is taking a nap on the couch, lol. No email alerting either of us to the update. She said she didn’t want to know the decision before we visited the OTHER Number 1 school’s Scholarship Competition, which is next weekend.
I won’t say anything for her to check - they do send paper letters, so I’m sure she’ll get the information next week sometime. Part of me wishes they could have held off for a week, lol.
Awaiting UMD results…big tease on their Facebook page but no action yet. People freaking out on the CC page. My DD isn’t home anyway, so I have to wait but I hope it’s tonight! I’m a wreck ;p
@2014novamom Thank you so much for sharing this story! I so needed to hear this today. I felt I have nowhere to turn because DS was hurting and I have to be the strong one. Glad I found this thread!
Gosh; some heartbreaking news on our little CC community these past couple of days. Hoping for better days and better news ahead for you all. We want our kids to get the results we feel like they deserve. How to counsel them when you don’t understand it yourself? My heart goes out to all of you…
No merit love from Purdue today. So frustrating cause she has good stats but I know it is hard to get at Purdue. Thankfully it has a great starting price. Was hoping not to have to pay full price though. She’s done a lot of outside scholarship apps so we’ll just keep plugging away at those I guess.
Sorry for everyone else’s bad news today. Hopefully next week we’ll all get done good news!
Well shoot. Add us to the list of disappointments. Just got the email that S18 wasn’t chosen as a semifinalist for the Harvey Scholars Program at Mines. He was also cut from consideration for the Davenport at Virginia Tech last week.
Wow! Sorry for all the disappointing news tonight! Hopefully the board gets a lot of GOOD news next week!
S18 received the gold envelope from College of Charleston tonight (apparently how they send information). He received an 18K scholarship, but there would still be 23K to fund out of pocket. Nope!
Dang this week has been brutal for a lot of people. So sorry to everyone who has gotten bad news. Especially those who have gotten multiple bad.
D is my only so I don’t have the experience to say they all end up where they belong. I have to believe it to be true.
Hugs to all who need one tonight
