No white box for my D either from USC. We’re quite bummed.
“A friend of mine who is a UVA graduate and interviews for their Jefferson scholarship just emailed me that 2 of Western Pennsylvania’s Jefferson Scholarship nominees got rejected.” - burghdad.
I’m reposting this just to make sure everyone sees how completely crazy and unpredictable this process is, but to also reiterate that bad news does not mean the kids (and parents) getting bad news should feel “less than” in any way. This is the perfect example of, at times, an absurd process. I hate that it’s so opaque. I hate that our kids are feeling their confidence shaken by this. They don’t know why they didn’t get the nod, and so they feel like they must be lacking.
They aren’t lacking. They are fantastic. They’ve shown that they can manage a huge new world of high school academics and social pressures WHILE THEY ARE TEENAGERS. Can you imagine? You can’t pay me to do that.
So, I don’t want to minimize the hurt that kids are feeling tonight. It’s real. I want to blanket them in hugs - and the parents too, because we hurt when they do. But I firmly believe that these talented kids are going to go far, and they are going to be vital to shaping our world, and I trust them and wish all godspeed.
Wow @burghdad you have had a rough few days.
Maybe this is the “negative” session before lots of positive news? One can only hope.
So sorry to hear about the recent string of bad news on applications and scholarships.
We actually got the good news we’ve been waiting for…DD was accepted to UMCP and their college scholars program, and into the limited major she requested (govt & politics). It was a struggle to get the decision… She got the notification email that decisions were posted on the coalition app at 8:50 pm tonight as she and her friends were going into the movie theater! She was frantic on the phone because she couldn’t access the site, so she asked us to see if we could get it to work and to send a screenshot if we could see the letter. I am picturing her screaming and jumping out of her seat right in that middle of the movie, but was happy we were able to get out to her. Felt weird to know the results before she did!
So she is 3/3 and I’m pretty sure 100% on going to UMCP. The two other options offered scholarships, but their programs aren’t as strong so we think her choice is a good one. Hope others who applied to UMCP get good news, too!
@lifegarding so happy for your DD!
My DD is also in at University of Maryland, College Park! She is so excited! This is her first choice and we are in-state (yeah $$).
She got into the Honors College, and the Engineering program. Exactly what she wanted. Couldn’t be any better. Except it took two hours of torture to load online, lol.
@suzy100 Thank you for that post. It’s been a really rough few days here for so many.
I survived the pasta party. The house is still standing and nothing flooded. D did in fact wear her McGill gear, and her BF gave her this awesome hat he (his mom :)) ) made with Canada pins. She’ll have great memories from tonight, and I’ll never have to do this again.
@lifegarding and @Astro77, we finally stopped looking to see if the UMD notifications had been sent out after all the weird delays, and then learned decisions were released. I guess there’s something to a watched pot not boiling! My son also got good news from UMD. Congrats!
@pickledginger @Astro77 @lifegarding also have a UMD admit. What a struggle. Didnt get through to decision letter til 11! But thankful. Congratulations! When my clients know there will be web traffic they add server space. Plus a note on twitter saying sorry might have been nice.
@klbmom18, congrats! Glad to get some good news after the tough news on the board recently.
@ShrimpBurrito - the pasta party sounds like so much fun. I love to see my son interact with his teammates. We don’t do house parties but the parents set up a refreshment table for long meets. The kids come over and snack at the end and almost forget the parents are there. I am going to miss it so much.
Congrats on all the great UMD news!
I’m sorry to hear about the UVA disappointments. I knew it was tough to get into UVA but I didn’t realize how tough.
DS accepted to UMD - Smith School of Business - very happy. Will visit again - offers a lot but wonder about class sizes, access to profs etc. On the Amtrak line so that’s a good thing.
Great news about UMD. Congratulations to all UMD admits!!!
@pickledginger @Astro77 @lifegarding @ @klbmom18, @CA1543 Congratulations on the UMD Acceptances!!
And now I can truly be a

White smoke from the University of Cincinnati admissions portal - admitted directly to the College of Nursing!
We are still waiting for decisions from Xavier and Wright State, but not really. She woke us up yelling around midnight, nearly giving my husband a heart attack. There is a spring in her step today. :x
So much of my time lately has been focused on college and my oldest child, who is still sleeping. I was just sitting here reading posts and my youngest, who is 10, is sitting nearby playing on the computer…but as I was sitting, I heard her singing and I smiled. It’s the simple things that bring so much joy…hug your kids today!
So happy to read all the good news!! Congrats on the UMCP admits and @bearcatfan UC admit. Excellent results from all the hardwork. Glad your kids are happy as that is the most important.
To those still waiting, I’m hoping for good news for all of you too.
Yeah!! <:-P <:-P <:-P Thank you UMCP and UCincinatti for breaking our bad news cycle!! Congrats to everyone with good news!! :D/ Hoping this is just the beginning of an upswing for this group! >:D<
@ChattaChia - yes; crazy how much everything will change in just a few short months.
Woot! Woot! Congrats to all of the happy admits, and Dia’s special Brownies of Consolation for the deferrals and rejections.
The brownies work best when accompanied by ice cream, a good friend or parent, and a funny movie.
