@AmyBeth68 Swimming. She tried rowing when she got there, but time commitment was too big. This is nice because she gets serious competition, but not required to attend daily practices. They have had meets at places like Ohio State where they travel and race. It’s coed BTW.
My S18 would not consider Pitt. He wants more of a campus. And no way no how would he go to his sister’s school.
That’s so funny @ShrimpBurrito - my D could care less about school spirit, especially about sports. Which made me really surprised that she liked USC so much. Especially because after Baylor she said “you know I don’t like that rah-rah stuff, mom”. Hmm. USC is about as rah-rah as they come!!
Soiling the nest. Lol. I never heard that one before. No soiling going on here. Definitely some seniority’s kicking in but D has always been pretty high strung about grades so she could do to relax.
In MA still raining here but I hear we will get our snow overnight. Heavy, wet heart attack snow. Ugh.
If I were going to get another degree, which I’m not, I would go to Pitt. They are great in my field, medical
Congrats to all on the good news, and hugs for kids with less than good news. Also, for everyone facing storm conditions, stay safe! @suzy100 Oh boy, I 100% hear you on Pitt FOMO! Pitt was on DS’s list, and we even put it on FAFSA and sent SAT scores. But as Dec. 15 came closer, he just passive-aggresively didn’t submit an app. Arrgghhh.
Pitt FOMO is has set in for me, esp. since he decided to apply to Purdue instead, but as a state school, the offered FA makes it NFW.
He’s hoping for good news on scholarship decisions at his EA schools and pending RD apps to three full-need-met schools.
I’m hoping that my FOMO for Pitt, UTD and UCF will eventually pass (or at least sit quietly in the corner).
Next up - Rensselaer and UW, according to the dates communicated. Getting nervous for DS as more school decisions come up and a couple of scholarships too.
First soiling of the nest today when DS asked if I had booked our summer vacation yet. When I said no and asked why, the response was “None of your business.” This from a kid who is normally so sweet. Totally shocked me!
By the way for all my love of Pittt and Pittsburgh and her love of Pitt athletics and Pittsburgh sports my DD would not even apply as she did not want an urban school…lol
@memmom2018 Good luck. Centre College is on the short list for DD. Would love to hear your review after this weekend. We have been to campus a few times but only heard the “talk” once the other two times were to meet with the coach and have an overnight.
@memmom2018 hope visit is helpful. DS liked Centre a lot when he visited. Just decided he wanted to be in a large research U environment. Great school and well thought of here in KY.
Centre actually has the Brown Fellows program also that DS is doing at U of L. 10 students each year from each school, and they do a lot of things jointly together, starting this summer. So he’ll have a little taste of Centre and Danville even though he didn’t choose to attend.
For NMF kids, the awards from NMC itself may be out. I posted this in the NMF thread:
I called NMC to see where you would find the award on the site. The very helpful young lady said that if you are in the student’s portal (not the one for parents), when you log in you will see the page that has the three steps, the last being “maintain your personal information…” She said if the student received an award, there will be an offer letter on that page at the bottom.
EDIT: I did not ask whether all of those awards are out, so I don’t know if it means you won’t receive one if there isn’t one there today.
I saw that @suzy100 , and I started to hack my kiddo’s NMSC acct (I generally have his passwords but this one was different), then I decided I could wait. If he gets the $2500 NMSC award it will just replace another, school sponsored NM award of close to the same amount. So not much at play here.
