That’s a photo of the Celsus Library facade in Ephesus, Turkey, I took on a cruise excursion a few years ago. Highly recommended (once things settle down over there!). Tons of stuff to see: newly uncovered terrace houses (with archeologists at work), walk down the marble road, the library, two coliseums, religious sites, etc.
@droppedit we also went to Ephesus as a stop on a cruise. We loved it. I’m really glad we had the opportunity to do it when we did because it obviously isn’t happening now. Loved the food too
I am too attached to the hope that D might get one of the competitive scholarships that will be announced any day now. I checked for the mail too many times yesterday afternoon. It’s not healthy given the chances are low. At least I’m keeping it to myself, but I know I’ll be really disappointed if she doesn’t get one in particular.
I am glad the list is down to four very nice options. I’m thankful two are very comfortably affordable and both of them are great schools, but I’m still hoping for a miracle for her to be able attend a smaller private college in a nice environment with a lot of green, friendly kids and supportive professors.
@zomaya99 First off congrats, because EA plus two LL sounds like your kid got into some great schools. Very impressive.
I doubt they will give you the financial aid info now since your kid isn’t technically accepted, however, since the FA office is separate from admissions it probably wouldn’t hurt your kids’ chances to call and ask. At least you could find out when that info will be available. I would be careful in phrasing it remembering that its a “likely” (which is as good as admitted, but needs time to become official).
edit: I just looked at your posts and saw your DD’s list. I have first hand exprience with 4 of the schools on your DD’s list having either attended myself or have a child there. Absolutely make Yale work out. Its hands down the winner from that group. There are some close seconds - great list - but my opinion is go to Yale. congrats again.
Some updates. As things wind down, they also intensify since “the decision” still needs to be made.
We are waiting on only one acceptance decision, Princeton RD at end of month. It is an assumed “no”, so there is not too much worrying to be done. I should clarify the U Chicago deferred decision is also still pending, but that is a NFW regardless.
Amusingly, RPI conditionally provided an acceptance if a Physics course was taken and passed. That’s silly for various reasons, and DP Jr. is not going to school in Troy NY. I guess they can have their Rensselaer Medal back.
Trinity University has an opportunity called the Towers Scholarship and he was just notified that he was selected as a scholarship winner. That was a shock. This qualifies as material news as it relates to the valuation of Trinity’s stock, especially when coupled with the disappointment of the RRSP reserve listing at Alabama.
Odds?
Trinity 40%
Alabama 30%
Texas A & M 15%
ASU 12%
Field 3%
High five indeed, @DavidPuddy! That’s fantastic news! Big Trinity fan over here. We know some local Trinity alums, and they all speak very highly of their school experience. S20’s excellent World History teacher went to Trinity, and she says it was “really hard.” As you know, the Tower Scholarship makes Trinity a really, really good value. Congratulations to DPJr.
Congrats @DavidPuddy ! Trinity is in my “regrets” box, as my S18 decided not to attend the scholarship weekend after he had heard from some other choices. Hard scholarship to get too, so your child is obviously something special.
Odds update. It is rapidly coming down to a 2 school race unless Furman ups its money offer or USCal does something unexpected (like admit him with a full tuition scholarship, LOL).
Medium School in Small Town in the South we went back to 30%
Large School in Large City in Midwest we went back to 30%
Medium School in Small Town on the East Coast we will go back to in 2 weeks 20%
One of the four RDs (including reaches) coming in the next two weeks 20%
She did withdraw from two definite no’s with really good merit…hoping that makes another student/family smile soon! I have her holding the two least expensive including our state until we get the last round in and get back to that last one. We have written off the waitlist…even if she gets it it will be a no.
Congrats @DavidPuddy !! <:-P <:-P I’m so excited someone from our group got it!! I haven’t heard a peep from D about it, she probably hasn’t checked yet, but we both are anticipating a no.
@DavidPuddy I just went and read up about the scholarship at Trinity and that is amazing!!! Congratulations!!! Your son must be over the moon as well as you and Mrs. Puddy with pride!
@DavidPuddy Congratulations! My D was in the “We are all programmers now” group and was sure she wouldn’t get the scholarship. So glad someone I “know” got one!
@DavidPuddy - My D is a sophomore at Trinity and loves it. Her friend group has a blast, while all serious students too. We are impressed overall. Congratulations on the award - they had a record number of applicants this year, as you probably heard. Trinity seems to be in an upswing.
Yes @stemmmm We are trying to make Yale work out. So we will just call and see what we can find out from the other schools. I’m confident everything will work out in the end.
