@AmyBeth68 sorry to hear no extra love from Pitt, but I am so glad she is stoked to be coming to Pitt. I’m sure she will do great things there.

@AmyBeth68 so sorry about no additional merit.
Well the good news with the final decisions is I can eliminate another couple of CC college threads.
@AmyBeth68 like the new avitar…
@burghdad thank you! Yes H2P! I’m sorry your daughter had some disappointments but her options are great. Hoping you’ll be able to update your avatar soon!!! Also how about that new Basketball coach?
@GMC2918 what fabulous options she has and best of luck on the WL for her top choices. This process is grueling to say the least!!!
@amybeth68. Loving the new coach. Just a great hire. The Pete and the Oakland zoo will be hopping again. No better place to watch a college basketball game when the place is full and rocking which it was just about every game before the last two years. If your daughter is a basketball fan she will love going to games and sitting in the Zoo.
To show how random this whole think is among the top tier schools. Kid posted on Princeton CC
Admitted: Princeton, Williams and UNC-CH OOS
Waitlisted: UChicago, Wake Forest and W+L
I know that Wake and W+L are fine schools but surprised someone would be admitted to Princeton and not admitted to Wake and W+L (no offense @Vistajay)
@Boomer1964 – she just didn’t want to go to UGA. Clemson is nice, too, but UFE and RRSP at Bama are the big draws. Those programs pull in top notch kids from all over the country. D18 was really impressed that one of the incoming kids was the leader of the recent anti-gun rally in Austin, TX (and got Matthew McConaughey to speak at the rally).
@droppedit Looked up those programs and they look great. Good luck to your daughter
I know this is such a stressful time for so many and a lot of times their feels like their is no rhyme or reason. Remember that all schools care about their yield. If you have the stats to get into Princeton, W&L and WFU might assume you won’t attend. I know its not fair but unfortunately it is how the game is played. Just remember your kiddos will all end up at schools that are right for them. Hang in there!!
Good luck to everyone still waiting for dream school decisions! And, sorry to those who didn’t get good news. The college you DO go to will be lucky to have you. :x
DD got happy mail today - a private scholarship that is renewable for four years! It’s on the higher range of what I thought she’d get, so that’s just a bonus.
We are waiting for a couple seriously big renewable local scholarships - in the $4-6,000 range - that are need-based. We have the need, let’s see how it plays out compared to others.
Congrats @bearcatfan!
Most of the ones around here are not renewable and much smaller amounts, but I would be thankful for anything.
@mrminsky My D had a hard time just withdrawing her application to Macalester after she got in somewhere else ED2. It was a very close 2nd if she had to choose between the two. She and I both wrote long letters to her Rep thanking them for an incredibly personal and warm experience (something we didn’t feel in a lot of other places). I’m a big fan of Mac!
@bearcatfan - Woot! Woot! Congrats!
With D’s rejection from Cal, we are done. Thank goodness. I am so glad I never have to go through this again.
I tried to not get too involved in the college rat race. I let my kids do what extracurriculars they wanted to do, not what would look good on a college app. (For the most part). Still, they’ve taken a ridiculous amount of family time and energy and yes, I’m bitter about it. This whole process has managed to suck a lot of fun out of the last 2 years of my kids high school career.
Final tally:
S – applied to 7, accepted to 6, rejected from UCD. Got into his ‘reach’ and #1 school, Cal Poly SLO.
D – applied to 6, accepted to 4, rejected from USC and UCB. Will have a tough decision to make and I don’t know where she’s leaning, since her heart was set on going to USC.
I’m glad to have found this board and have received some really useful information from it. Wasn’t the most prolific poster but read a lot. Good luck to everyone’s kids and I hope they all enjoy where they’ve landed. I’m going to happily not think about college for the next couple of months!
Unrelated to colleges but…
Baseball season starts today! I’m currently listening to the Braves-Phillies game. There’s just something comforting about hearing the regular announcers. Family tradition.

Dd has yet to check her ivy day notices.
Since I paid the applications fees, I feel I should be able to check. She seems to not want to face the inevitable 4 rejections, so just doesn’t check. No way to pull the login passwords out of her.
I am thinking of evicting her from the house. She can sleep on the lawn till she checks on her college statuses.
Following SC Anteater’s lead, here’s D18’s final tally (record is 4-5-1):
Admitted: Alabama, Clemson, GaTech, UGA
Waitlisted: Rice
Rejected: Duke, Penn, Stanford, USC, WashU
The only rejection that really stung was USC. The others, she either wasn’t super excited about or knew the chances were slim for everyone (Stanford). The results for the rest her HS class remain ugly in terms of the ultra-prestigious schools.
My son has been accepted into Cornell (ILR), WashU, Middlebury, Hamilton, Colby, Case Western Reserve, Colorado College, Rhodes College, University of Southern California and University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Waitlisted at UChicago, Williams, and Grinnell. Denied: Princeton, Dartmouth, Brown, and Northwestern. We are traveling the month of April. I’m so ready for him to make a decision.
@sekere62 , I feel your pain. I convinced my S last year to take an AP exam by telling him the grade wouldn’t matter, it would be the experience that would be valuable. When the scores came back, he decided not to look - for months! - and I had no case to make that he should without outing myself as a total hypocrite.
Maybe there’s a compromise? She could get somebody neutral to look and let her know if there’s one she might like to see?
